So I have this printer and it’s telling me to replace the waste toner cartridge. I replaced it and it is still giving me the same error. For the fun of it I took apart one of the waste toner cartridges and found that it’s 95% empty. I noticed three electrical contacts on the right side so I’m wondering how to bypass the sensor or even how the sensor works.

The message Replace Toner appears on the display if any one of the following occurs: – The toner cartridge is at its end of life and needs to be replaced. – The developer roller has reached its upper limit of rotations.

Open the front cover of the printer and press the CLEAR / BACK button. Press the following buttons on the keypad in this sequence, *, 0 and finally 0. Close the front cover. The warning message should now be clear.
When “Toner Low” is displayed, prepare a new toner cartridge. If you do not have a new toner cartridge at hand and need printing before obtaining it, you can continue printing about 20 pages(*1) by opening and closing the front cover or the output tray. Print quality is not guaranteed.
If the message `Fuser Error` or `Self Diagnostic` Error continues to appear on the display, leave the machine on for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, try powering the machine off and on again. – If the display reads `Ready`, the problem is resolved.

Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.

ANSWER : You need to unlock the carousel. Once you unlock it and remove the toners, ignore all the rest of the crap. Pick any color and align the cartridge slot on the left side like you would have it to remove the cartridge. Then pull out on the gear towards you on the right and drop it so the right slot is lined up as well. You can get it aligned pretty close by just eyeballing it visually. I’ve never seen the left side go out of alignment, just the right, so this method has worked for me everytime.
