Canon Pixma IP8500
The entire ink tank is stuck to the right side (under the hood). Cannot even manually scoot it over to the center when printer is turned off. No paper jam, nothing blocking the tank. Does anyone have any idea how I can get it unstuck? Error message is canon’s 6A81 error (i.e. call Canon). Getting it serviced is not an option, would prefer to do this myself! Thanks.

How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Make sure the ink tank is square in the print head, then push on the top of the cartridge until you hear a click. You should then be able to remove the cartridge.
If the printer has been printing continuously for a long time, the Print Head Holder may not move to the center since the Print Head may overheat. Opening the Top Cover while printing moves the Print Head Holder to the right. Close the Top Cover, and reopen it after printing finishes.
The carriage assembly, which holds the ink cartridges, stalls against the left side of the product.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
For general ink yield (not photos), Canon lists the standard size cartridges as yielding approximately 1,100 pages for the black cartridge and around 310 pages for each of the color cartridges.
The Canon iP8720 uses Chromalife 100+ dye based inks, model CLI-251. The printer also uses one pigment black ink cartridge for text and document printing.
Updated: 02/07/2022 by Computer Hope. A paper jam is when paper or other printed material gets stuck or lodged in a printer and cannot eject. When this occurs, the printer does not function properly until the paper is manually removed.
This may be caused by pieces of paper or foreign matter in the machine, or paper not loaded correctly.
The print head holder will not move unless the power is on. If the ON lamp is not lit, close the print head cover and turn the printer on. While the ON lamp is flashing, the machine is initializing. Wait until the ON lamp stops flashing and remains lit, and then open the print head cover again.
If your printer won`t print, a print job has stopped unexpectedly, or you received a “carriage jam” error, your printer carriage is likely jammed. These jams occur when the carriage holding the ink cartridges stalls in the printer. Carriage jams sometimes occur after a paper jam.
