Thanks! On my printer, one of the magnets did dislodge and was stuck on the other side. I finally figured out what it was from your advice. The magnet was not broken and popped right back in to place. Keeping my fingers crossed that was the only issue.

How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

The fuser unit is a heated roller that melts the toner particles onto the page as it passes through. This seals the toner to the page so it`s no longer in powder form and makes sure that the toner doesn`t smudge of fall off the paper when it comes out of the printer.
A fuser unit is a pair of heated rollers within the printer that fuses the toner onto the paper being printed on. Toner particles are pulled to the paper to create the desired text and images as the paper passes the imaging drum.
The message `Fuser Error` or `Self-Diagnostic` means either the fuser has reached the maximum temperature allowed or there has been an error in detection of the correct temperature during specific times of the printing process.

Streaking, smudging, black lines, and double images are all symptoms of a bad fuser. When you notice these printing defects and experience problems, such as paper jams or wrinkles, this is a good sign to replace the fuser kit.
There are replacement rollers and sleeves on the market that you can replace and turn a non-functional fuser into a good working one. Rebuilding fuser assemblies is not a new thing. Copier technicians have been doing it for years since the first office copier was created.
The fuser unit or fuser is a critical part of any laser printer. Using pressure and heat, it fuses the toner powder onto the page to create a print, and without it, the printer cannot operate.

The fuser unit must be replaced every 100,000 pages, usually along with the transfer belt and feed rollers as part of a maintenance kit. The error code 010-351 indicates that the fuser has reached 100,000 pages and should be replaced immediately. The printer will not operate until the fuser unit is replaced.
The message “Fuser Kit Low” or “Fuser Kit Very Low” on your HP Color LaserJet M553 series printer is a warning that you have reached the recommended number of prints for your fuser assembly. (The fuser assembly is the consumable part in your printer which heats up and bonds toner to the paper.
The Fuser operates in the temperature range of 175 – 215o C (347-419o F).

Printers with a large fuser can print between 300,000 and 500,000 pages before needing to be replaced.
The fuser unit is used to permanently bond toner to a substrate by applying heat and pressure. A fuser unit is made up of two rollers; one to apply heat and one to apply pressure.
The following are the top reasons why paper jams occur:

unsupported paper/media is used. incorrect paper settings in the tray and/or the print driver. paper loaded incorrectly and/or paper edge guides not adjusted properly in the tray. humidity and/or paper condition and storage.

Paper could also be jammed inside the fuser where it would not be visible. Remove the fuser to check for jammed paper inside.
Select the desired Custom Paper > Change Settings > Adjust Fuser Temperature > Change Settings. Based on the printed output, increase or decrease the Adjust Fuser Temperature in increments of 1° or 2°.
At the printer control panel, press the Home button. Touch Device > Support > Fuser Temperature Adjustment. To select the paper type, touch Paper Type, then touch the name of the paper type in the list. To increase or decrease the fusing temperature, press the arrow buttons, then touch Adjust.
Rollers with silicone-rubber coating for the use in industrial high-speed printing-applications.
The biggest difference lies in the name, as they tend to include all of the same parts. A maintenance kit should include a new fuser assembly, and a fuser kit should include all the necessary maintenance parts.

Removing and re-installing or replacing the Fuser while the machine is powered on may cause damage to the machine and cause it to become inoperable. WARNING: The Fuser and surrounding area may become very hot during operation.
The toner is rolled onto the substrate as it passes the drum; toner particles with negative charge get attracted to the paper with the positive charge and thus produce the desired image. The fuser unit or hot roller is used to melt the toner powder, which is essentially plastic, onto the paper.
Increasing the temperature too much may distort the paper and cause glossy lines, paper jams, and insufficient toner fusing (hot offset). Depending on the type of paper, you can increase the toner gloss by increasing the temperature by 5 to 10°C over the initial factory setting.
