I had a similar paper pickup problem on laserjet 6mp. The printer would go through start-up sequence fine but when it received a print job you could here the main gears/rollers turning but no clicking from paper pickup solenoid, then eventually error lights would come one . I incorrectly assumed it was an error with the paper pickup mechanism and wasted a whole day taking the printer apart and replacing the paper pick mechanism. Long story short, if I had bothered to figure out the secondary error light codes from the start, I would have realized it was just a bad fuser and would not have wasted so much time.
How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the pick rollers and cause paper feed issues. To help prevent paper feed issues, clean the rollers inside the printer and in the duplexer (if equipped). If the other steps in this document fail to resolve the issue, then reset the printer.
The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers. The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly. The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product. The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
The common reasons for this issue are various, for instance, the paper input tray is overloaded, dust or moisture can affect the paper feed or paper pick rollers, the printer driver is old, etc. Thus, the printer cannot detect the paper that has been inserted into the tray.
To resolve this issue, change the default paper size of your printer: Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Printers. Right-click the appropriate printer, and then click Properties. Click the Paper tab, and then click the paper size you want to use in the Paper Size box.
Low Quality and Improper Storage of Ink and Toner Cartridges. Low-quality cartridges or improperly stored cartridges can cause paper jams. For example, too much toner or ink can be released onto the paper, or the toner or ink can clump together in the cartridge.
There are a few things that could be the cause of this problem, including: Empty ink or toner cartridges that need replacing. Ink or toner cartridges that have become dislodged from their proper place. The wrong paper size loaded in the input tray.
A piece of paper stuck in the paper tray or inside the printer can create a paper jam. Paper jams can occur for a variety of reasons, such as overloading the paper tray, loading different thicknesses of paper in the tray, or using paper that isn`t appropriate for your particular printer.
Paper Overloading Because many desktop inkjet printers are top-loading, it can be easy to overload the tray.
A4 Paper Size
Default print jobs are formatted to fit an 8.5-inch by 11-inch piece of paper. Depending on what type of document you`re printing and what program you`re using to print it, it may be labeled “Letter.” A4 size paper, on the other hand, is closer to 8.25-inches by 11.75-inches.
Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the paper feed rollers and cause paper jams and paper feed issues. Clean the rollers inside the printer, and then try to print again. Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord.
Paper Jams This is a common laser printer problem. Primary causes include grime, dust, worn rollers, or incorrect paper weight. The most basic way to prevent paper jams is simply through regular cleaning of your printer. Also, replace parts as needed.
Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the pickup roller and cause paper feed issues. Clean the pickup roller inside the printer, and then try to print again. Turn off the printer. Remove the paper stack from the input tray.
If the paper feed rollers are dirty or paper powder is attached to it, paper may not be fed properly. In this case, clean the paper feed rollers. Cleaning will wear out the paper feed rollers, so perform this only when necessary. Make sure that the power is turned on and remove any paper from the rear tray.
Select > Paper Setting > paper source > Print Adjustments > Paper Feed Adjust.
Continuous form feed and friction feed are the two types of paper feeder mechanisms. Dot matrix printers use continuous form feed, and laser printers use friction feed.
Printer rollers are the small circular rubber pieces that help feed printer paper through your printer. Over time, they can accumulate dust from the paper and ink residue from printing double-sided pages. To clean your printer rollers, you`ll need to first locate them in your printer.
The tray settings determine how the printer manages the paper trays.
HP Printer Paper Tray Lock A Paper tray lock is used to prevent the tray from accidental use. The lock is used in printers that contain multiple trays. It is mainly used in printers while inserting special papers into the input tray.
Click on Printing Options. Under Printing Options, there is the second option Paper. Click on the drop down arrow under option Paper.
That`s A4 in all the dimensions you could possibly want. The recommended minimum resolution for A4 photo printing is 3510 x 2490 pixels. While you can print images at A4 in a lower resolution, most printers would recommend this as a minimum, to avoid blurring or low-quality prints.
A resolution of 210 x 297 mm at 300 ppi (pixels per inch) is perfect for A4.
As a rule of thumb, to achieve photo quality print, you will need to use an image resolution of 300 pixels per inch. We write this as 300 DPI and means that in each inch of your print there will be 300 pixels.
Make sure your printer is securely connected to your PC. The ink isn`t running out and the ink cartridges are not clogged. There`s enough paper in the paper tray. Restart your printer and give it a refersh, it could be just a glitch.
