Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
Hello, I have the same problem a number of people on this forum have raised in my Canon IP4500 – the PGBK ink is not printing at all, despite several deep cleansing cycles, soaking the print head overnight a few times. If you could advise any potential fix, that would be great. My email is [email protected]

How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Check the nozzle check pattern you printed. (1) If lines of this pattern are missing, the print head nozzles need cleaning. (2) If these patterns have white streaks, the print head nozzles need cleaning.
Setting Your Printer

Choose “Printing Preferences” from the pop-up menu, then look at the setup options your print driver provides. Usually, there will be one called “Layout” or “Page Layout.” Once you`ve clicked “Layout,” you should have the option to manually set your margins to zero.

One or more clogged nozzles preventing ink from getting to the page is the most common cause of a printer skipping lines. Through normal use, small amounts of ink can collect and dry in the printhead blocking the nozzles.
If your laser printer is skipping or missing lines, this is normally caused when seals haven`t been removed correctly. It can also occur when there is damage to the toner, drum unit, or damage to the fuser unit.
Performing Duplex Printing Manually

Check the Duplex Printing check box and uncheck the Automatic check box on the Page Setup tab. Select Normal-size, Fit-to-Page, Scaled, or Page Layout from the Page Layout list. The best Stapling Side is selected automatically from the Orientation and Page Layoutsettings.

If you don`t see a Print on Both Sides pane, then your selected printer doesn`t support duplex printing. Or, the feature is turned off (see Verify that printer features are turned on). Click OK, and then click OK again to print.
Partial prints are a common issue with printers and there are several main reasons it can occur: Problem with the print spooler (on Windows PCs) Overload of the GPU on later model Macs. Dodgy USB cord.
Empty ink or toner cartridges that need replacing. Ink or toner cartridges that have become dislodged from their proper place. The wrong paper size loaded in the input tray. Clogged printer head nozzles causing a build-up of blocked ink or toner.
Open the document, and then click File > Print. Select your printer, and then click Printer Properties, Preferences, or Printer Setup. From the print settings, select the option for a two-sided print job. Menu options vary by printer model.
Often, when there are lines or shading on your print job, the print cartridge could be the reason. When the print cartridge is not being effectively cleaned off, it creates streaks or shading on the document.
Ever wonder why your prints sometimes appear faded or streaky? It`s usually because the printhead inside your printer is clogged or dried out. Like with most printers, Canon printheads can clog due to ink or dust drying up and collecting in the nozzle.
Duplex printing means that you can print on both sides of the paper with your printer either automatically or manually by turning the paper over after the first side has printed.

PGBK shows no band on test print;
ANSWER : Take out all the inks. On the right side of the cartridge assy. you will see a plastic lever. Lift it up and reach inside and remove the printhead assy. Take it over to the sink and run hot water into the black screen on top to flush out the dried ink. Then flip it over and run hot water on the print heads. Do it for about a minute for each side and then repeat. Blot it dry with a paper towel. Reinstall and try it again.

PGBK will not print
ANSWER : Deep cleaning uses wet ink to clear dry ink. Yeah, that works real good. Take all the ink tanks out. On the right side of the carrier, you will see a plastic lever. Lift it up and then reach in and lift out the head assy. Take it to the sink and flush the screens with hot tap water. Flip over and run the water over the heads on the bottom. Repeat a few times and reinstall. That’s real deep cleaning.
