Sticking pickup roller solenoid. Pretty easy fix. You need to remove the right side covers. The back one just slides off, but the top holds the front one. I usually just take the 2 right side screws off and gently lift the top enough to pop off the side panel. Open the metal door on the formatter assy. Then release the tab in the middle. There’s also a tab at the front of the panel. When putting it back on, make sure you engage the rocker switch and the metal rod before pushing it into place. When you get it open, you’ll see the solenoid at the bottom front. There’s 1 screw holding it in place. Remove it and take the top plate and spring off. Be careful not to lose the spring. Then scrape off the gooey crap on top and clean off the plate as well. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt in place of the remnants of the disintegrating sponge that HP uses. You can find it at the hardware store used for the bottom of chair legs.

How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers. The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly. The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product. The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
1. Causes of Multiple Sheet Feed. Multiple pages being fed through the printer overlapping or in a stack occurs when the media fails to separate correctly in the tray. Common causes are issues with the print media, incorrectly adjusted paper trays and worn or contaminated feed or separator rollers.

Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the pick rollers and cause paper feed issues. To help prevent paper feed issues, clean the rollers inside the printer and in the duplexer (if equipped).
A piece of paper stuck in the paper tray or inside the printer can create a paper jam. Paper jams can occur for a variety of reasons, such as overloading the paper tray, loading different thicknesses of paper in the tray, or using paper that isn`t appropriate for your particular printer.
If your printer is continuously feeding blank sheets of paper (meaning that it will just keep spitting out blank sheets without stopping, even when you power it off and back on) you probably have a sticking pickup solenoid.
Right Click on the Printer Icon in “Devices & Printers, then click on “Device Settings”, scroll down to “Installable Options” and then disable “Mopier Mode”.
Misfeeds occur frequently. The number of sheets loaded exceeds the capacity of the printer. Load paper only as high as the upper limit markings on the side fences of the paper tray, or the markings on the paper guides of the bypass tray.
Make sure that the paper guides in the tray are correct. The problem you are having is very often related to either a paper size setting or a problem with paper not being picked properly and the printer having to try several times to feed the paper, accompanied by multiple sounds of the pickup roller rotating.
Paper Overloading

Because many desktop inkjet printers are top-loading, it can be easy to overload the tray.

If the paper feed rollers are dirty or paper powder is attached to it, paper may not be fed properly. In this case, clean the paper feed rollers. Cleaning will wear out the paper feed rollers, so perform this only when necessary. Make sure that the power is turned on and remove any paper from the rear tray.
Once properly clean, they will perform better, but to get them like new again, you should apply a restoring compound which lubricates the rollers and restores their tackiness. Oritech has a Rubber Roller Restorer that you an use on the rollers, for approximately $15, that will last you a life time.

Shut down the computer, then press the paper button to eject the jammed paper. If the error does not clear, open the printer cover and remove all of the paper inside, including any torn pieces. Then, reload the paper in the sheet feeder and press paper button to resume printing.

Paper jam in tray 2 (but no paper pulled from tray) also M476DN models
ANSWER : Isopropyl alcohol is not recommended for rubber rollers. It dries out the rubber and hasten it’s cracking and breaking. It will do nothing to restore the grip. Those rollers are really hard to replace. It would be easy if that dumbass secondary menu really worked. None of the techs I’ve spoke to ever got into it. Everyone I know sends a print job and listens for the roller to rotate into position where you can pull it off.

Tray 2 solenoid part found under printer; Paper feed issue
ANSWER : What you are describing sound like the solenoid plate and return spring. If you look at the plate itself, you’ll see a lip curling up on one end and there are 2 slots on the sides at the other end. The lip is what stops the roller from turning until the solenoid pulls the plate down. The slots go on the 2 poles sticking up on the solenoid with the lip pointed up. Then you hook the spring on the 2 metal tabs one on the solenoid body and the other between the 2 slots at the back of the plate.
