How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

It`s usually because the printhead inside your printer is clogged or dried out. Like with most printers, Canon printheads can clog due to ink or dust drying up and collecting in the nozzle.
A printhead is the device in an inkjet printer which sprays droplets of ink onto a sheet of paper.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
Your printer displays the “Missing or Failed Printhead” error to signal a malfunctioning printhead. The issue could be due to clogged ink nozzles, dirty ink cartridges, internal paper jams, and more. HP printers may also display this error if the printhead pulls air from ink cartridges.
If your printer or plotter head is built into the printer cartridges, you change your printhead every time you change the ink. If the printheads are built into the printer or plotter, they`re likely to require replacement after long-term use.
The product prints a nozzle check pattern. Check the printed pattern to see if there are gaps in the lines. If there are no gaps, the print head is clean and you can continue printing. If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head.
Press Setup. Press the arrow buttons until you navigate to Device settings and then press OK. Press the arrow buttons until you navigate to Reset setting and then press OK. Press the arrow buttons until you navigate to Reset all and then press OK.
There isn`t much that can be done in the way of repairing a printhead, only replacing parts. By the time a printer technician assesses your printer, gets the part you need, and replaces it, you could have ordered a new printhead from allprintheads.com and replaced it yourself for much less.
If you find that the printed image is unexpectedly faint or dots in the printed image are missing, you may be able to solve these problems by cleaning the print head, which ensures that the nozzles are delivering ink properly.

Canon Pixma MP610 won't print in black
ANSWER : Printer cleanings use wet ink to clear dried up ink. Yeah, that works real well. The best way to clean the heads is remove all the ink tanks. Next to the tanks on the right, there is a plastic release lever. Pull up on it and it will release the heads. Reach in and pull them out. Take the heads over to the sink and run hot tap water into the screen for the black and then turn it over and run it over the heads on the bottom. Repeat a few times and reinstall.
