How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Remove all of the new cartridges you had installed and re-install the old (empty) cartridges that worked. Restart the printer, this should remove the not recognised error (and tell you some are empty).
The ink cartridges may not have been installed using the correct procedure, or they may not be seated correctly. Follow the instructions below to correctly install and reseat the ink cartridges. Note: This product is designed to use only genuine Epson-brand ink cartridges.
Find the Cartridge Reset Button.

Some Epson cartridges such as Epson 78 ink has a reset button for refillable purposes. Turn the ink cartridge to where the microchip can be found. Using the end of a paper clip, press the reset button that can be located above the metal contacts, right in the center.

The chip in question tells the printer when toner levels are getting low. A useful feature, certainly, but one that printer companies often use to lock out third-party cartridges—without the chip, the printer will say it doesn`t know how much ink or toner is inside the cartridge, assume it`s zero, and refuse to print.
What Are Toner Cartridges With No Chips? If a toner cartridge lacks a chip, it just means that the cartridge will be unable to communicate with the rest of the printer directly. Generally speaking, only third-party manufacturers make toner cartridges that lack a sensor chip.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts: one of the most common reasons you might get a cartridge problem error when your cartridges are new and full is the contacts on the cartridge might be dirty or otherwise obscured from making good contact with the electronics in the printer head carriage.
Verify the ink cartridge(s) is inserted properly. Some cartridges snap in place, and if they are not inserted fully, the printer won`t print anything. If a lever is moved from its original position to allow for installation of ink cartridges, ensure it is returned to its original position.
Press the tiny reset button located beside the chip and hold for 10 seconds. Depending on the brand and model of the cartridge, you may not need to hold the button for 10 seconds, but it won`t harm the cartridge so do it anyway just to be safe. Done.
The chip is programmed to automatically reset when the cartridge reads empty in the printer, is removed, refilled with ink, and reinstalled. Upon reinserting the cartridge, the ink level will be reset to full. This style chip can NOT be manually reset.
If your printer is consuming too much ink during printing, try these solutions: Make sure you selected the correct Media Type setting in the printer driver that matches the paper you loaded in the printer. The amount of ink used during printing is controlled by the Media Type setting.
Yes, you can reset the print settings to their original, default values. Press and hold down the Cancel button for 3 seconds. When the message to reset the printer to default settings appears, press OK to reset the print settings.
It is usually on the top right-hand side of your printer, near any digital display screen that the printer may have, and where the button used to turn the computer on and off is also located. Find the button marked Pause/Reset on the row of buttons on the control panel.

Lexmark Reset ink cartridge
ANSWER : Lexmark X7170Cartridge #33 – 18C0033 On front of the Cartridge, where all the contacts are, mine has a small white label with a barcode printed it. I ordered re-filled cartridges and noticed they put what looks like black tape (feels like duct tape) over the white barcode. So I removed the black tape from an empty cartridge, tried it on a new re-filled cartridge and so far, it seems to work.

Resetting of chip for hp toner Q6000A
ANSWER : HP Color Laser Jet 1600 – Thanks for all the above information. Even though the 1600 is a different printer, I followed the above: “…go to “System Configuration”; then to “Print Quality”; I then get a choice of “Replace Supplies” and then “Overide Out”…” Selecting “Overide Out” got my 1600 back to printing, although I did have do perform the steps TWICE before it seemed to take affect. Not sure what was going on, but I’m happy that people put the information out there for the rest of us to have.

Lexmark X466 empty tray
ANSWER : The “Load Tray 1 with A4 paper” means the printer is looking for A4 size paper in Tray 1 and that is not what it is detecting. You need to make sure that the paper size that is in the tray matches what the printer is expecting so it understands that it should be looking for a specific size of paper. If you are printing on regular Letter size paper – set the printer tray to Letter instead of A4 and message should go away.

Lexmark paper feed problems
ANSWER : On my X204n Lexmark laser printer, it was doing the same thing you described – basically sounded like it was trying to pick up the paper from the tray and then failing after several seconds. When you’d open the paper tray, the paper looked like it had been partially taken up with some black scuff marks on the paper that lined up with the rollers that take up the paper. I inspected the rollers and although they looked a bit smooth and worn, didn’t seem like they should be a problem. However, this particular model has just a rubber tire almost like a car tire – the rubber can come off the hard plastic wheel on the inner portion. So I popped off the two rubber “tires”, turned them inside out and put them back on. When turned inside out, the rubber looked nice and … rubbery and had a lot more grippy feeling to them. The very first printing attempt after that and the paper sucked up perfectly with no problems. I think the problem is solved! So if you have similar “tires” that take up the paper, try flipping them and see if it works for you too.
