I have the same issue… I’ve tried everything above… I don’t believe it’s dust as this happens on and off occasionally… I think I may need to make a youtube video of me “fixing” this printer! I’m really frustrated with this thing!! If it doesn’t work soon, I’m gonna by the solution in the form of a hammer!

How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

A grinding noise when using the scanner glass or flatbed to make a copy or scan a document is typically due to a mechanical malfunction of the scanner assembly. However, it may be the result of debris or objects interfering with the travel of the print head.
A clicking sound may occur if the stirring spring assembly inside the Toner Cartridge catches on a rib within the cartridge, preventing the stirring spring and its gear from turning. The resulting click is caused by the drum`s toner drive gear slipping against the stirring spring gear on the Toner Cartridge.
A clicking (grinding) sound coming from the scanner is caused by the scanner head drive belt slipping, most likely because it cannot find it`s index position (or home position). Failure to find it`s index position (IP) causes the scanner head to eventually hit something solid causing the belt to slip (grind, grind).
Turn the product on while you press and hold the Resume button for 10-20 seconds. The Attention light turns on. Release the Resume button. The Attention and Ready lights cycle while the product restores factory defaults.
A click is a unit of measurement the imaging industry uses to count an image produced by an MFP or other printing device.
There are many reasons why a laptop fan may be making noise, including overheating, lack of cleanliness, hardware issues, or software issues.
`Movement is one of the best ways of preventing clicking. The more you move throughout the day, the more your body lubricates itself. Sitting in the same position for hours means the fluid in your joints doesn`t move either,` says Joshi. `Regular exercise to maintain healthy joints and keep muscles strong is essential.
If you`re hearing a heater clicking noise in the car or clicking noise coming from deep within your dash, the problem is likely the blend door actuator. The actuators are either not positioned correctly, the gear may be stripped, or the actuator may be broken.
Possible causes

A piece of paper, or other obstruction, is stuck somewhere inside the printer. One of the toner cartridges or photo developer units may be installed incorrectly or may be damaged. A door or cover may not be closed completely. A roller or gear on a paper feed option may need repair.

A grinding sound is heard when the printer is turned on or when it is printing. Blinking lights may accompany the noise. The problem can be caused by a carriage stall or a paper jam.

HP Laserjet 2200, Tray 2 Pickup Problem, Gears Clicking
ANSWER : Definitely not a solenoid problem. I’ve worked on tens of thousands of printers and never replaced a single solenoid. You probably knocked something loose when you installed the pickup roller. Maybe something to do with the gear on the end of the pickup roller shaft. You’ll need to take the gear assembly off to be able to see it.
