How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

When the printer tells you to load tray 1 it means the size and or type of paper being asked by the print job does not match the same that the printer thinks it has in the tray.
Open Tray 1 by grasping the handles on the left and right side of the tray and pulling down. Slide out the tray extension. For long paper, flip out the tray extension to support the paper. Press down on the tab on the right paper guide, and then spread the paper guides to the correct size.
Solution: An incorrect paper size was selected when printing. Select Options then leave the tray selected and press OK. Your print job will now print on the 8.5×11 paper available in the printer.
Most times when this happens there is a mismatch between what the printer thinks it has in the paper tray and what the job is asking for. Most times if you set tray 2 for the correct size and then choose type as any it will solve the issue. The tray may be set for bond or something else.
Select > Paper Setting > paper source > Print Adjustments > Paper Feed Adjust.
If roll paper does not feed, cut the end straight across and uncurl it by rolling it backward, if necessary. Then reload the paper. If thick media does not feed, make sure you are loading it straight into the product, not at an angle. If paper jams when you print on both sides of the paper, try loading fewer sheets.
Improve printer performance by selecting the optimum paper type for the tray. You can select from the following paper types: Tray 1. [Thin Paper], [Thick Paper 1], [Thick Paper 2], [Plain Paper], [Recycled Paper], [Color Paper], [Preprinted], [Prepunched], [Letterhead], [Bond Paper], [Cardstock], [Label Paper]
”Remove Misfeed Tray 1” appears when a paper jam has occurred in Tray 1. Open the front cover and remove the paper. Pull Front Cover Open Lever, and then open the front cover with both hands carefully. Carefully pull the jammed paper upward and out.
The most common cause of the Surfer error “Print aborted Code = -1” is insufficient memory on the printer.
The common reasons for this issue are various, for instance, the paper input tray is overloaded, dust or moisture can affect the paper feed or paper pick rollers, the printer driver is old, etc. Thus, the printer cannot detect the paper that has been inserted into the tray.
There are different methods of paper feeding. With dot matrix printers, paper is often feed through pins on a wheel that grab and slowly move paper through the printer. With inkjet and other page printers, paper is fed through the printer with rollers that grab and move the paper through the printer.
Depending on the setting, printed copies are fed as follows: Side 1 is the surface of the paper printed during one-sided printing, or the surface of the first print during duplex printing. Side 2 is the surface of the paper printed on the back side of Side 1 during duplex printing.
1. or feed roller : a roll or one of two or more rolls by which material is drawn or fed into a machine. 2. : one of a set of small rubber rolls under the platen of a typewriter that help to roll the paper and hold it in place during typing.
Paper that is loaded incorrectly in the input tray might prevent the tray from closing completely. Remove any paper from the input tray, and then reload the paper correctly before closing the input tray. Grasp the handle on the input tray, and then pull the tray toward you to open it.
This error can occur if the printer trays are installed incorrectly. Make sure the printer is located on a flat surface, then make sure the photo tray moves smoothly within the paper tray guides. Make sure the printer is positioned on a flat surface. Push in the output tray extender.
Open the front cover and remove the paper. Pull Front Cover Open Lever, and then open the front cover with both hands carefully. Carefully pull the jammed paper upward and out. If paper has jammed inside the transfer unit, holding both sides of the paper, pull the paper carefully forward and out.
Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Printers. Right-click the appropriate printer, and then click Properties. Click the Paper tab, and then click the paper size you want to use in the Paper Size box. Click OK, and then close the Printers folder.
The manual feed slot is located on the front of your printer. It can be closed when not in use, making the product more compact. Use the manual feed slot to print transparencies, labels, envelopes or postcards in addition to making quick runs of paper types or sizes that are not currently loaded in the paper tray.
Canon 4-in-1 printers let you print, scan, copy and fax with absolute ease. Whether you`re printing documents or photos, make sure your home office is complete with a Canon copy, fax and scanner printer.
HP Printer Paper Tray Lock A Paper tray lock is used to prevent the tray from accidental use. The lock is used in printers that contain multiple trays. It is mainly used in printers while inserting special papers into the input tray.
The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers. The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly. The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product. The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
Tray 1 is the small slot in the front for manually feeding paper. The paper cassette which holds the paper and slides out is called tray 2.
Generally when the printer tells you to print to tray 1 it means the job being sent to the printer is asking for a paper size and/or type that the printer does not think it has in any tray. Check you paper size and type settings for trays 2 and 3 and then check what each job is asking.

HP Laserjet 2200, Tray 2 Pickup Problem, Gears Clicking
ANSWER : Definitely not a solenoid problem. I’ve worked on tens of thousands of printers and never replaced a single solenoid. You probably knocked something loose when you installed the pickup roller. Maybe something to do with the gear on the end of the pickup roller shaft. You’ll need to take the gear assembly off to be able to see it.

Tray 1 (upper tray) paper feed problem
ANSWER : There is no way of adjusting the distance of lift. Could be that the pickup roller is worn enough that it will pick up a sheet that is higher, but not one that is lower down. You can look at the end of the roller that first makes contact and see if it is worn smooth.

HP Laserjet 6MP wont feed paper
ANSWER : I had a similar paper pickup problem on laserjet 6mp. The printer would go through start-up sequence fine but when it received a print job you could here the main gears/rollers turning but no clicking from paper pickup solenoid, then eventually error lights would come one . I incorrectly assumed it was an error with the paper pickup mechanism and wasted a whole day taking the printer apart and replacing the paper pick mechanism. Long story short, if I had bothered to figure out the secondary error light codes from the start, I would have realized it was just a bad fuser and would not have wasted so much time.
