How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

If your printer is consuming too much ink during printing, try these solutions: Make sure you selected the correct Media Type setting in the printer driver that matches the paper you loaded in the printer. The amount of ink used during printing is controlled by the Media Type setting.
To find out which ink cartridge is empty, check EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows) or EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh). You can also tell which cartridge is empty by checking the speed at which the error light flashes when the print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position.
Press the home button, if necessary. Press the left or right arrow button to select Maintenance > Reset Ink Level. Press the start button, the OK button twice, and then the start button again. Press the right or left arrow button to highlight the ink tank you refilled and press the OK button to select it.
To maintain optimum print quality, perform a nozzle check before printing. This lets you visually inspect the printed check pattern and clean the nozzles, if necessary. There are two ways to check the nozzles: Set up the product to automatically print a check pattern before each print job.
Hold down the paper button and press the power button to turn on the printer. When the printer turns on, release both the buttons. The printer prints the nozzle check pattern.
A Nozzle Check is a self test print to verify that the Ink Delivery System of the printer is producing adequate ink output. If the Nozzle Check meets specification the ink delivery system is typically in good working order.
On your computer, in the Windows Notification Area (bottom-right corner of your Windows desktop), right-click the printer icon. In the printer menu, select the Properties or Preferences option. In the printer settings window, the ink or toner levels are displayed for the currently-installed cartridge(s).
Select your printer then press “Manage” Select “Printing Preferences” Click on the “Maintenance” tab on the far right. From there you should be able to see ink levels for your selected printer.
Ink cartridges that have been sitting idle in your machine for more than a couple weeks will eventually dry out. You might be able to bring them back to life by running a cleaning on your machine, but if the pattern continues, you will eventually be placing an order for a set of replacement cartridges.
If you feel that the ink cartridges run out very quickly every time you replace the ink, it`s possible you are printing high density documents frequently. The ink consumption varies very much on print density.
To ensure print quality, use ink cartridges before the expiration date printed on the packaging or within 6 months of install them. Allow ink cartridges and cleaning cartridges that have been stored at low temperatures for an extended period of time to return to room temperature over a period of four hours before use.
Epson recommends replacing ink cartridges every six months to ensure quality prints (Image source: The Spectraflow).

Epson ink cartridge leaking?
ANSWER : Posting this cause it worked for me. I have an Artisan 837 that was leaving pools of blue on the page. I tried Epson’s recommendation of cleaning the print path by pressing the copy button on the control panel (with nothing on the flatbed). Printed 5 pages and the last 2 were clean. Did a test print and the problem was back. Repeated a few times with the problem reocccuring. Switched out the cartridge. no better and now the printer doesn’t recognize its own brand cartridge. Yet, it accepts the 3rd party one.

Epson 2400 waste ink tank full?
ANSWER : The “waste tank” is actually just a foam sponge cut to fit space under the print head travel. If you’re careful you can get it out with a pair of long ! tweezers, rinse it in water and dry it. It may come out in pieces…assemble them as a template to make a new one or try to buy a new one on- line. Before putting it back in clean the whole region under the head travel as best you can with plenty of paper towels. This is a messy job, so prevention will save a lot of cleanup. Good luck.
