A: Yes. You can use the scanning feature without worrying if there is ink in the ink cartridges installed in the all-in-one printer. However, all of the genuine Epson ink cartridges must be installed, even if depleted of usable ink and the printer displays the replace cartridge message.

It is generally used when re-inking a cartridge, because the cartridges must be removed from the printer to complete the process.
Epson does not recommend refilling or using 3rd party ink cartridges. Using these products will not void the product`s original warranty, however, if these 3rd party products cause a failure, the repair of that failure will not be covered under warranty.
Reset. Resetting the printer stops printing and clears the current print job received from the active interface. You may want to reset the printer when there is a problem with the print job itself and the printer cannot print successfully.
No, it is not okay to put any ink in a printer. Different printers are designed to work with specific types of ink, and using the wrong type of ink can damage the printer and result in poor print quality.

ANSWER : Pretty much nothing else you can do except try another new cartridge. I had 2 identical HP printers once in the shop. One of them didn’t like one of the cartridges. I swapped it over with the other printers cartridge and it was happy. So was the other printer. Swapped the cartridges back and it didn’t like it again. How do you explain that? You don’t.

ANSWER : Epson inks are usually oil based where as generic in cartridges are water based. They both use dyes and pigments for the actual colouring however the formulas are obviously different.

ANSWER : The only way is to buy a chip resetter and reset the chip on the cartridge. You can find them online for about $5. You just hold it against the cartridge until the light turns green. You do run the risk of damaging the printhead due to overheating because of no ink in it.
