Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
Posting this cause it worked for me. I have an Artisan 837 that was leaving pools of blue on the page. I tried Epson’s recommendation of cleaning the print path by pressing the copy button on the control panel (with nothing on the flatbed). Printed 5 pages and the last 2 were clean. Did a test print and the problem was back. Repeated a few times with the problem reocccuring. Switched out the cartridge. no better and now the printer doesn’t recognize its own brand cartridge. Yet, it accepts the 3rd party one.

How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Clean the contacts

If the contacts between the cartridge and the printer are dirty or clogged, there is a high chance that this can be the main cause for the ink to leak on the paper. To properly clean the contacts, open the printing machine and remove the ink cartridges and place them on a clean piece of paper.

One of two issues can cause this. The toner cartridge may not be fully seated into the photoconductor unit. This can cause the seal between the two to break, allowing toner to leak out. The other possibility is that the toner cartridge or the photoconductor unit may be damaged.
Wipe the ink spills off carriage first with the damp lint-free cloth. Use the cotton swabs to clean stubborn hard spots and clogs if needed. Wipe with a dry lint-free cloth and let it air dry for 5-10 minutes.
To avoid unexpected leaks, it`s also important that your pens are stored correctly. It is best to keep it in a cool space at home that avoids heat and high temperatures since heat can cause the air inside a pen to expand and force ink out. Pens should be capped and retracted as well.
If your ink sack leaks, take the Saniderm off and follow your aftercare instructions. You may not need to wash your tattoo or apply any topical products if you just got your tattoo done a few hours ago.
Leaking that`s particularly excessive tends to mix with blood, sweat, and plasma, alongside other bodily fluids as well as similar things which appear on the upper layer of your skin. Ink that`s leaking from a tattoo is actually a good sign, and it`s quite normal.
To test if cartridge is damaged, wipe its entirety with a dry lint-free cloth. If there is a stain away from the contacts, there might be a crack in the cartridge. If there are no leaks, properly install the cartridge again. Do a print test to ensure printing quality.
Standard pigments used in commercial inks can be sensitive to many types of over print and post processing coatings. This sensitivity can result in an undesireable color shift of the printed ink, often referred to as a “bleed” or “burn-out”.
It is normal for ink to be in this area – that is where ink is “spit” to keep the nozzles clear. Running cleaning cycles will deposit ink in this area, as will the normal servicing. It is not necessary or desirable to clean the service station area.
Most problems occur when the ink chamber is semi-full because the air inside the chamber can expand with additional cabin pressure — forcing ink through the nib. If there`s no space for air to gather in the chamber, this cannot happen. Make sure you keep the nib upright for take-off and landing.
If your Epson printer is printing out faint images, skipping lines, or is streaking your image with lines, chances are you have a clogged nozzle–a common problem many users have with Epson printers. It`s unavoidable that print heads clog over time as small amounts of ink residue dry up and collect in the nozzles.

Epson Artisan 837 Cyan Ink Blotches-leaking
ANSWER : Just encountered same problem (with light magenta) and discovered it was my own fault! There’s an adhesive-backed piece of aluminum foil that serves as one wall of the ink channels in the white plastic transition junction where it connects to the printhead. In trying to clean the printhead, I apparently nicked that foil, but didn’t notice when I reassembled, so I created a real mess in the printer. I cleaned everything up and then carefully (to cover the damage but not plug the ink channel) smeared a light coating of Goop household cement over the nicked hole, let it cure for about 6 hours, put everything together, and the leaking stopped.

run with empty ink cartridge
ANSWER : The only way is to buy a chip resetter and reset the chip on the cartridge. You can find them online for about $5. You just hold it against the cartridge until the light turns green. You do run the risk of damaging the printhead due to overheating because of no ink in it.
