What`s the difference between a drum unit and toner cartridge? The toner cartridge is the container that holds the toner powder. The drum unit is an electrically charged cylinder that fuses that toner powder onto paper to create text and images. Both of these components are essential for producing a print.
Toner is the powder ink that latches on to the paper to create text and images. It is stored in the toner cartridge. An image drum is the unit that copies the text and images from the computer and then transfers them to the paper, along with the toner.
Each component of a Brother laser product is designed to work with the other. All original Brother toner cartridges are manufactured to the highest possible standards in controlled clean rooms. Each cartridge is rigorously tested in order to assure users of the quality and performance they expect.
What is the drum unit? The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer puts the toner on the roller called “The photosensitive drum” inside the drum unit, and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper by heat and pressure.
The drum-unit is an important component in the copier/MFP/laserprinter. Its primary role is to attract the toner particles by electrostatic polarities. Also known as Photoconductor-Unit (PCU) or Imaging-Unit (IU), the design of the drum-unit vary depending on the brand and model of the device.
What is a toner drum? Found within any laser printer, a toner drum is a component which transfers the toner powder stored within the cartridge onto the paper. It comes in the form of an electrically-charged cylinder. The printer will take toner powder from the cartridges and apply it on to the drum unit`s roller.
These companies, including HP, Epson, and Brother, sell their printers at a loss and recoup their investment in ink and toner sales. “That`s why original brand cartridges are so expensive,” he says. These name-brand (also known as original equipment manufacturer or OEM) cartridges aren`t your only options, though.

The Brother machine will display a `Replace Drum` or `Drum Stop` message when the machine has printed approximately 15,000 pages. The drums should be replaced as a set in order to maintain print quality. Unlike the toner cartridges, the drum change is not automatically detected by the machine when they are replaced.
All laser printers require a toner cartridge and a drum unit to produce a print. However, some printers only need you to replace the toner cartridge, and others require that you regularly replace both the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Most printers use toner cartridges with the drum unit built into the cartridge.
The photoconductor kit and toner cartridge are two important components of a laser printer. These parts have different uses in laser printing. These parts are not interchangeable. If they are not, the printer will not work.
The main difference between photoconductors & photodetectors is; a photoconductor is a device or a material that uses or exhibits photoconductivity whereas a photodetector is a device used for detecting electromagnetic radiation.
The printer gathers the toner from the hopper with the developer unit. The “developer” is actually a collection of small, negatively charged magnetic beads. These beads are attached to a rotating metal roller, which moves them through the toner in the toner hopper.
The Printer Roller Drum is an aluminum cylinder coated with a layer of non-toxic, organic-photo conductive (OPC) material. The OPC material becomes electrically conductive when exposed to light.
The yield of a drum unit is approx. 15,000 pages (1 page/job). There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used and so on. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 15,000 pages.
On a basic level, there are mainly three types of toners which are scientifically prepared to suit different skin types – normal, dry, oil, and combination.
There are three types of hair toners – permanent toner, semi-permanent toner, and demi-permanent toner.
If your hair is too red, a green toner is used; if your hair is too orange, a blue toner is used; and if your hair is too yellow, a purple toner will neutralize the unwanted yellow tone. Usually, the toner will be purple, but it`s best to know what you`re trying to neutralize.
Generally speaking, a toner cartridge contains a dust-like powder that fuses onto a page to create your prints. The drum is combined in the same cartridge as the toner. Where supplied separately, the toner cartridge is basically a container for the toner and a roller for supplying the toner to the image drum.
The difference in a toner to an ink cartridge is that toners contain colour powder instead of liquid ink. These are what are used in laser printers. A laser printer projects the document onto a part called the drum.

The drums should be replaced as a set in order to maintain print quality. Unlike the toner cartridges, the drum change is not automatically detected by the machine when they are replaced.
In a nutshell, ink cartridges contain liquid and are used by inkjet printers and toner cartridges contain powder and are used by laser printers. The ink inside an ink cartridge can be either dye-based or pigment-based, depending on which cartridge you have.
