Adjust the paper setting on your Brother machine
Make sure you loaded the paper in a Portrait position, by setting the paper guides at the indicators for your paper size. After you have checked the paper size and the paper position, follow the on-screen instructions.
The most common cause for this issue that the document size setting that is within the application DOES NOT match the paper size that is loaded within the machine`s paper tray. It is very important that you adjust the application`s document size.
To resolve this issue, change the default paper size of your printer: Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Printers. Right-click the appropriate printer, and then click Properties. Click the Paper tab, and then click the paper size you want to use in the Paper Size box.

Change the paper size for all pages
On the Format menu, click Document. Click Page Setup. On the Paper Size pop-up menu, select a paper size.
Create custom paper sizes in printer properties (Windows)
In the Print window, click Preferences, Properties, or Printer Properties. Click the Paper/Quality tab, and then click Custom. Click New, type a name for the custom paper size, select the width and height, and then click OK to save the paper.
8.5 x 11 or letter size paper: 8.5 x 11 is the standard size for most printers. It`s also the size used for a wide range of standard documents, including magazines, catalogs, letters, and forms.
Where the standard US letter format is 216mm x 280mm or 8.50 inches x 11.00 inches the standard European A4 size for a business letter is 210mm x 297mm or 8.26 inches x 11.69 inches.
A0 has an area of one square metre (but it isn`t a square), and every other paper size in the A series is based on A0. We use A4 for writing on because it is a lot more convenient than trying to write on a square metre sheet of paper!
The most common of these sheet sizes is the international letterhead size A4, which measures 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 in, or 210 x 297 mm. These paper measurements are defined by the ISO 216 standard. The machine will exit without rebooting. If you do not reboot your machine, the reset process will not finish and your settings will remain unchanged. [Settings]>[All Settings]>[Network]>[Network Reset].

ANSWER : There is probably a small scrap of paper stuck at the left edge of the paper path. The paper hits it and skews to the left. The smaller size bypasses it. You need to shove something stiff, like a piece of file folder, down the paper path and attempt to dislodge it.
