How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Place the toner cartridge on a flat surface, lift the tab, and gently pull the sealing tape completely out.
Toner Cartridges:

Most toner cartridges have a piece of sealing tape sticking out of the side of the cartridge that protects it during transit. To remove the tape, gently pull it out and across the toner towards the trashcan.

Get a flat something to use as a pry bar. I would suggest the back of a spoon handle, or a dull table knife. Insert the pry bar between the top of the cartridge and the underside of the carriage slot. Slide it forward and then gently lift the pry bar slightly, just enough to allow the cartridge to be pulled free.
The sealing tape seals the toner powder inside the cartridge and if it is not removed properly, you may get poor print results. We do not recommend printing with part of the sealing tape still inside the cartridge.
Use Isopropyl Alcohol

Place a few drops of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on a cotton ball or paper towel to saturate the sticker. After saturating the sticker, wait at least 10 minutes and use a plastic scraper to remove the adhesive.

You can cut the plastic or the glue around the chip, but it`s best if your tools don`t touch the top “gold” part. You can handle the chip with plastic tweezers, clean hands, or in a way that will not scratch it.
Thread seal tape (also known as PTFE tape, Teflon tape, or plumber`s tape) is a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film tape commonly used in plumbing for sealing pipe threads.
In short, thread seal tape is best used to seal up most threaded connections. However, if said connection has a rubber seal or gasket, you also do not need thread seal tape.
magnetic tape cartridge (tape cartridge) A casing containing one or more reels carrying a length of magnetic tape, so arranged that it can be loaded on a suitable tape transport for access without the tape being handled by the operator.
Scotch Magic tapes have a Cellulose acetate substrate with an Acrylic adhesive. It is available as either a frosted (#810) or transparent tape (#800). Acetone will dissolve the carrier.
Common paint thinner (mineral spirits) is a solvent that can be used to remove butyl adhesives.

Expired Toner and Suggestions for Source of Toner
ANSWER : Hi Frank, I had a very similar question two weeks ago, but my “old beloved workhorse” is an HP Laserjet 4L. From the good old days! I too had made bad investments in “new but old truly HP” toner cartridges, hoping to coax more life from my printer. I ended up choosing to try a remanufactured cartridge from www.4inkjets.com. It was a gamble, but the website said they had a 100% satisfaction guarantee. And I can tell you they have lighting fast service. I’ve now printed 50 pages without a flaw. JOY! While the cartridges and technology are different, I suggest you try the same place. And good luck!

Toner cartridge full, printer displays: "empty needs replacing"
ANSWER : I once went to a customer who had a similar issue. They had installed new cartridges and judging from the box, they looked OEM. Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.
