Press the “Clear” and “Stop” button, hold it for 1 to 2 second. When you releasing 2 buttons, press the “Clear” button again at once. The printer will go to the toner counter reset page.
The No Toner message appears if the toner cartridge or the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly is not installed correctly. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit, and reinstall the toner cartridge back in the drum unit.
The message “Toner Ended” is intended to alert you that the toner cartridge has reached the end of its life. The toner cartridge must be replaced to continue printing. Install a new genuine Brother TN420 or TN450 toner cartridge.
Use the Factory Reset function to restore all settings back to the factory settings. Unplug all the interface cables before you perform a Factory Reset. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Initial Setup, and then press OK. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Reset, and then press OK.
A common reason for this problem is the improper installation of your toner into the drum unit. Check the manual for cartridge installation or reinstall until the printer detects the toner and is ready for printing. Low ink or toner levels after replacement.
On your computer, in the Windows Notification Area (bottom-right corner of your Windows desktop), right-click the printer icon. In the printer menu, select the Properties or Preferences option. In the printer settings window, the ink or toner levels are displayed for the currently-installed cartridge(s).
A typical toner cartridge will produce anywhere between 2,500 and 4,000 pages, based on a coverage of 5% (roughly third of a page of double-spaced text). Dense pages filled with small font text or graphics will dramatically reduce this output and you may only get up to 1,000 pages per cartridge.

Reset. Resetting the printer stops printing and clears the current print job received from the active interface. You may want to reset the printer when there is a problem with the print job itself and the printer cannot print successfully.
Hold the the # button down for 5 seconds until Reset Menu is displayed.
The toner collection unit is designed for a single use. Do not attempt to empty the toner collection unit and reuse it. Doing so could lead to toner being spilled inside the product, which could result in reduced print quality. After use, return the toner collection unit to HP`s Planet Partners program for recycling.
Cartridge breakdown – You can only refill your cartridge up to five times. There could be different types of refilled cartridges available in the market, ranging from the ones suitably designed for your printer model to those that claim to be “compatible” with any printer.
“Toner Low” indicates that the toner cartridge is approaching the end of its expected life, but the cartridge has not yet reached its end of life. It`s recommended that the toner cartridge continue to be used if the print quality is still good.
The message TONER LOW appears on the display when one of the toner cartridges is running low on toner, but the cartridge has not reached its end of life. This is just an alert that the toner cartridge will reach its end of life in the near future.
Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly.
If you install a new toner cartridge but the “Toner Low”, “Replace Toner” or “Toner Ended” error indication remains, the toner cartridge may not be installed correctly. Reinstall the toner cartridge, referring to the instructions on how to replace the toner cartridge.
Verify you are using a NEW toner cartridge.
Swapping toner cartridges from one machine to another or installing a partially used toner cartridge may cause this problem. If you install a partially used toner cartridge, your Brother machine is unable to recognize toner consumption correctly which will cause this problem.
