When I try to scan or copy a document (8 1/2 x 11) the image is faint on the left side. Is this a lamp problem and how/where can I get a replacement?

Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
The scanning is done by light bouncing off of some mirrors. Could be dust on one of the mirrors. Try shining a light down into the scanner unit and look at the mirror that is visible and see if it has dust coating on the side that is light.

How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

Here are the most common causes of a printer printing faded text or images: Low ink or toner levels. Toner sticking to the fuser roller or problems with the transfer roller. Low ink or toner density settings.
1 Place an original document facedown on the scanner glass in the upper left corner. 2 From the home screen, navigate to: Copy > specify the copy settings > Copy It If you have more pages to scan, then place the next document on the scanner glass, and then touch Scan the next page. 3 Touch Finish the Job.
A common cause of faded, faint printouts from your inkjet printer is dried ink particles causing a blockage in your printer. The printheads on an ink cartridge can be become blocked if the printer is not used for a period of time, so it is recommended to print a few pages each month to maintain the print quality.
If the ink has bled or the page has warped, your printer may be having an issue with ink over-saturation. You can solve this issue easily by increasing the print speed. If the pages appear faded, you can increase ink saturation by decreasing the print speed or increasing the quality setting.
300 dpi is a standard benchmark for an excellent print. 200 dpi will still produce a decent image. 150 dpi can be acceptable if you`re viewing the print from a few feet away.
For most documents, 300 dpi is sufficient enough to be of good legibility and to provide adequate OCR results. In some cases 200 dpi may be adequate for simply retaining a print copy of a document. Scans at 400 and 600 dpi will results in slower scan speeds as the scanner detect fine details in your document.
To copy and paste, you can use keyboard shortcuts: PC: Ctrl + c for Copy, Ctrl + x for Cut, and Ctrl + v for Paste.
Copy paper, or multi-purpose paper, is the perfect choice for text-only documents that you`re printing, faxing or photocopying. A 500-sheet case of copy paper generally weighs 20 pounds. It`s also the least-expensive paper option.
There are numerous possible causes for a printer that`s randomly producing blanks. The most common ones are empty ink cartridges, improper cartridge installation, and congested nozzles. Driver and software issues can sometimes cause this problem as well.
When you print a low resolution photo, the smaller the print size, the sharper it will look. If you`re disappointed that you can`t feature your favourite photo as a huge print, you can still give it the attention it deserves by turning it into desk decor or by including it in a gallery wall with other photos.
Increase the resolution setting in your scanning software. Increase the resolution by the same amount you will increase the image size to retain a high image quality. For example, if the resolution is 300 dpi (dots per inch) and you will double the image size later, change the resolution setting to 600 dpi.
If your printer is spitting out pages full of strange characters, symbols, or strange formatting, your inkjet printer drivers may be outdated, incompatible with your operating system or corrupt. Drivers are important to the proper function of your inkjet printer and it is best to check for updates regularly.
Dirty or misaligned print heads

Your printer may be printing fuzzy, blurry, or other faint text because of dirty print heads. All modern printers have a self-cleaning mode, which cleans the print heads, and additional internal equipment used in the printing process.

Horrible lines in copying or scanning
ANSWER : If you are using the ADF, all pages are scanned with the scanner stationary on the left side. There is a small glass above the scanner and if there is anything on it, dust, whiteout, ink etc. it will interpret it as a line. First solution would be to clean the glass with window cleaner and a paper towel. If that doesn’t solve it, then scan the page on the flat glass and see if the problem continues.

faint copies
ANSWER : I think you’ve pretty much covered everything. You could try stopping the print while it is in the printer. Then pull out the toner/drum unit and have a look at the drum. If the copy is dark on it, then you have a problem in the transfer portion. I’m not sure if that model uses a transfer roller or maybe high voltage wire to transfer the toner to the page. They charge the back of the page with high voltage to pull the toner down. It’s rare they cause problems, but it can happen.

canon mx320 copies have blk line down the right side of copies
ANSWER : If you are using the ADF feeder to make copies, then check the small glass on the left side. If there is any dirt or whiteout on the glass, it will result in a line down that spot. You can confirm it by looking at the copy that has the line. If it is dirt on the glass, the line won’t go all the way from top to bottom. There will be a margin on each end.

scans and prints slanted copies
ANSWER : If you are copying from the adf, the scanner would be stationary on the left side. Copying from the glass the scanner moves across. I can’t agree with the Canon “tech” as paper being stuck in the ADF causing both issues. It would have been my guess if it was just the ADF. I can’t agree with it being a scanner problem unless, the scanner itself was slightly skewed. That would be visible if you lifted the top and looked down on it. The only other solution would be that somehow the paper it is printed on is feeding slightly askew. That could be caused by a piece of paper in the paper path.
