There are chips inside the original cartridges to record how many pages were printed and they cannot be reset. As a result the printer reads the chips and tells you that the cartridges are empty, even though they are not. This is why you are getting the “ink low” message even though the ink tank is at full capacity.
Be sure to reset the ink level after refilling the ink. If you refilled two or more colors, you need to select all of the colors that you refilled and reset the ink level. Unless you reset the ink level, the ink level displayed does not change even after refilling the ink.
Press the button on the chip-reset tool for several seconds until the LED light on the device goes off. Then, unlock the reset tool from the cartridge. Use the resetter with other cartridges and install them back into the corresponding slots in your printer. Voila!
Turn the product on while you press and hold the Resume button for 10-20 seconds. The Attention light turns on. Release the Resume button. The Attention and Ready lights cycle while the product restores factory defaults.
Reset. Resetting the printer stops printing and clears the current print job received from the active interface. You may want to reset the printer when there is a problem with the print job itself and the printer cannot print successfully.
Regardless of which you choose, all of your applications will be deleted and any settings will be returned to their default. 9. If you choose “Remove everything,” you will also have to decide whether you want a completely clean drive or if you would like to keep the laptop and you aren`t planning on giving it away.
Unplug and restart your printer
Sometimes power-cycling your printer can resolve the issue. Turn off your printer and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug your printer back in, and then turn the printer back on.
The printer drops the network connection, resets its network settings to their factory defaults, and prints a Printer Configuration label and a Network Configuration label.
Long-press the Resume button (or OK / Cancel button if there is no Resume button). Release the button once the printer light stops flashing, and the low ink level warning window from your computer disappears. Resume printing.
Remove the new cartridges and turn off the printer. After letting the printer sit for several minutes, turn the printer back on. Turn off the printer, let it sit, and turn it back on at least four times. This should replace the stored memory on the printer`s chip with blank logs.
Select your printer then press “Manage” Select “Printing Preferences” Click on the “Maintenance” tab on the far right. From there you should be able to see ink levels for your selected printer.
When the low ink warning appears, press and hold the STOP/RESET or RESUME button on the printer for 10 seconds. This button will flash with an orange light when the warning pops up, so it will be relatively easy to find.

Even though the 1600 is a different printer, I followed the above: “…go to “System Configuration”; then to “Print Quality”; I then get a choice of “Replace Supplies” and then “Overide Out”…” Selecting “Overide Out” got my 1600 back to printing, although I did have do perform the steps TWICE before it seemed to take affect. Not sure what was going on, but I’m happy that people put the information out there for the rest of us to have.
