How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

“DRUM LIFE” or “REPLACE DRUM” is a rough indicator that the image drum cartridge has reached the end of its life. If there are no problems with print quality even if this message appears, continue to use until there is no toner left. When out of toner, replace the image drum cartridge and toner cartridge together.
You can refresh the drum to improve print quality if streaks or white spots appear on printed images. Consult your service representative before using this function.
Drum Error typically appears when the corona wire on the drum unit needs to be cleaned or when the drum unit needs to be replaced. If you replaced the drum and the message appeared or continued to appear immediately after installing the replacement drum, click here. 1. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit.
You`ll know the drum is dirty if you notice that the print quality has become blurry and features blank spots or oddly-colored spots despite having full toner cartridges. Horizontal lines across the printout when the paper passes over a dirty area are another sign that it`s time for some maintenance.
There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used, number of pages per print job and so on. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 12,000 pages.
You can set when to display the “Image Drum Near Life” message. Press [Device Settings] > [Admin Setup] > [User Install] > [Drum Near Life Timing] on the touch panel to change the setting. Available values are from 500 to 3,000 (in 500 increments).
Run the printer menu setup tool. [OKI B410 Printer Menu Setup Tool]-[Printer Menu Setup Tool]. Click [+] to the left of [Maintenance Menu]. Click [MENU RESET], and then click the [EXECUTE] button.
To do this: 1 Press and release SEL (1) to take the printer off-line. The SEL light goes out. 2 Press and hold SHIFT (2), then press the RESET/CHARACTER PITCH key.
Reset the transfer belt unit counter: a. Press ON LINE, then press and hold MENU 1/Menu 2 until COLOR REG. ADJUST appears on the display.

Not sure what was going on, but I’m happy that people put the information out there for the rest of us to have.

ANSWER : You can, but there are good knock-offs and bad ones. I’ve run into ones that come totally empty. Ones that don’t have the chips installed that identify themselves to the printer. Ones that have sat on a shelf for years and fail on installation. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the idea. I use http://directpreciseimaging.com/ Mostly because I set him up in business and he’s local to me. I have very few problems with his products.
