If you disable your printer`s memory chip from collecting your printer usage information, you can continue using your printer even if the toner or ink is finished. So you want to inspect your printer`s ink level at interval by removing it to avoid your ink running out!

Locate the smart chip, which will always be on the underside of the cartridge. You can do this by removing the plastic tabs securing the chip to the cartridge. Use a sharp, thin tool to do this, such as a Swiss army knife or utility knife. Slide the blade of the knife under one of the plastic tabs.

Canon typically uses chips to verify that cartridges used in its printers are the company`s own, as well as to do things like monitor toner levels.

The chip on a printer cartridge helps monitor the ink levels in your cartridge so the printer can notify you when a cartridge is running low.

The cartridge will work fine EXCEPT the printer will not read the toner levels. It will register the cartridge as empty.

These chips, also called printer or ink smart chips, are used by printers to monitor the reserves and levels of your current toner cartridge. They communicate with your PC to provide warnings when certain levels are reached or if any other issue arises.

Do not try to remove the plastic square covering the round ink port located at the bottom front. This plastic square will be punctured by the printer head when you put the cartridge into the proper slot.

Hold down the stop / cancel button for 5 seconds to bypass the `ink has run out` message and your cartridge should work. The cancel button is a red button that normally looks like a triangle in a circle.

Press and hold the “Power” button and reconnect the power cord. When the printer comes on, release the button. Wait five seconds and push the “Power” button again. This resets the printer`s internal memory and overrides the “Ink Absorber Full” error code.
