How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Streaking, smudging, black lines, and double images are all symptoms of a bad fuser. When you notice these printing defects and experience problems, such as paper jams or wrinkles, this is a good sign to replace the fuser kit.
The fuser unit or fuser is a critical part of any laser printer. Using pressure and heat, it fuses the toner powder onto the page to create a print, and without it, the printer cannot operate.
There are replacement rollers and sleeves on the market that you can replace and turn a non-functional fuser into a good working one. Rebuilding fuser assemblies is not a new thing. Copier technicians have been doing it for years since the first office copier was created.
A fuser unit is a pair of heated rollers within the printer that fuses the toner onto the paper being printed on. Toner particles are pulled to the paper to create the desired text and images as the paper passes the imaging drum.
A fuser unit is made up of two rollers; one to apply heat and one to apply pressure. The heat roller is a hollow (usually metal) tube that is heated by a radiant heat lamp suspended in its centre (so the tube is heated uniformly), while the pressure roller is a backing roller made of rubber.
The fuser is located inside the printer just behind the four image drum units. Warning! If the printer has recently been powered on, some fuser components will be very hot. Handle the fuser with extreme care, holding it only by its handle, which will only be mildly warm to the touch.
The message `Fuser Error` or `Self-Diagnostic` means either the fuser has reached the maximum temperature allowed or there has been an error in detection of the correct temperature during specific times of the printing process.
The fuser unit is a heated roller that melts the toner particles onto the page as it passes through. This seals the toner to the page so it`s no longer in powder form and makes sure that the toner doesn`t smudge of fall off the paper when it comes out of the printer.
The fuser melts the toner particles, binding them to the page. The speed at which the paper passes through the fuser is what keeps the paper itself from burning. If the speed were slower, the paper would combust and burn.
The fuser unit must be replaced every 100,000 pages, usually along with the transfer belt and feed rollers as part of a maintenance kit. The error code 010-351 indicates that the fuser has reached 100,000 pages and should be replaced immediately. The printer will not operate until the fuser unit is replaced.
The message “Fuser Kit Low” or “Fuser Kit Very Low” on your HP Color LaserJet M553 series printer is a warning that you have reached the recommended number of prints for your fuser assembly. (The fuser assembly is the consumable part in your printer which heats up and bonds toner to the paper.
Paper could also be jammed inside the fuser where it would not be visible. Remove the fuser to check for jammed paper inside.
Removing and re-installing or replacing the Fuser while the machine is powered on may cause damage to the machine and cause it to become inoperable. WARNING: The Fuser and surrounding area may become very hot during operation.
The Fuser is the piece that fixes the toner on the paper. This, like any other consumable part, wears out with the regular use of prints, since it is one of the components that suffers the most due to its mechanical wear and overheating of its components, due to the high temperatures it must withstand.
The fuser is a part of laser printers that bonds the toner and paper together using heat and pressure. Fusers need to be replaced every 75,000 – 300,000 pages depending on the printer model.
The Fuser operates in the temperature range of 175 – 215o C (347-419o F).
Fuser Roller Materials
Only two types of material – silicone rubber and fluoroelastomers – have all the necessary physical properties, and these are commonly used to coat a hollow metal core to produce the fuser roller.
Verb. fuser. to melt or fuse. to gush or spurt. to ring out, sound out.
Fuser kits replace the heating element in Laser printers that fuses toner onto paper. These elements wear out from normal use, and many printers need a new fuser every 60,000 pages.

This is accomplished by the fuser lamp. The lamp operates at 120VAC or 250VAC and is typically rated at 500W to 600W. The control signal from the heater control circuit is typically low voltage (< 9VDC).
In laser printers, the Laser component is fundamental to the operation of the machine and is in effect a laser gun, controlled by the electronics which fires pulses of light at mirrors inside the printer.
A drum unit is a green metal cylinder or tube that carries a static electrical charge that attracts the toner powder from the toner cartridge and applies it to the paper as it passes through the printer. Therefore, you will always find that the drum unit is located very close to or even attached to the toner cartridge.

Cannot remove toner/drum unit
ANSWER : I don’t know how they manage to stuff like that. The front lid lifts the drum/toner unit up on each side. I imagine what is happening is that the left side isn’t lifting and you’re trying to slide it out crookedly. Try lifting it by the handle so that both sides are up all the way and then pull it out.

Error message reads remove and check right cartridge
ANSWER : You can try cleaning the contacts on the back of the cartridge and the ones that they contact in the printer. Other than that, you have to replace the cartridge. I once had one that did the same thing. I swapped the cartridge with another printer of the same model and both printers worked fine. I swapped them back and the original printer got the same error. The other printer had no problem with either cartridge. I swapped them back and left them that way.
