How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Timing belts are primarily used when synchronization of input and output shafts is required. A curvilinear-toothed belt also has belt pitch length, tooth pitch and width dimensions.
How to Identify a Timing Belt. There are several ways that a timing belt can be identified. Many times the timing belt part number and the name of the timing belt manufacturer will be printed on the timing belt and will still be legible.
How to measure the belt: You will notice that all V belts also sometimes referred to as wedge shaped belts are measured across the top think section and the depth of the belt. This means you would measure the widest part of the belt (thick section) and then from the widest part to the narrowest part of the belt.
Use a cloth measuring tape (not a steel one) and wrap it around the outside of the belt. You also use a thin string to take this measurement and place it on a steel tape to get the correct length. Next, for “A” Belts (1/2” width) subtract two-inches from the outside measurement to select the correct V-belt.
Timing belts are often referred to as tooted belts, it`s not a new thing, though I am surprised that it was called that in the service history instead of cambelt or timing belt. For peace of mind, call the garage that made that remark and confirm that they do indeed mean the timing belt.
There are three basic types of power transmission belting: flat, V, and synchronous.
First two digits indicate top width in sixteenths of an inch. Next two digits designate sheave angle, in degrees, that the belt is designed to fit. Last three or four digits indicate pitch length to the nearest tenth of an inch. Part numbers are derived from industry standard number.
The shape of the teeth, including how they blend into the belt and the thickness of the belt itself, are all part of the profile. When individual teeth are attached to a belt, the distance from tooth to tooth is the `pitch` of the belt.
It is available in 3mm, 4,5mm, 5mm, 8mm, and 14mm pitches in various widths and lengths. The part number typically has the format shown below. 80 means 8mm belt width, S8M stands for 8mm pitch, S-type tooth profile, and 380 is the pitch length in mm.
Under ideal circumstances, your car`s serpentine belt should last 60,000–100,000 miles. It`s important to replace this belt as part of your vehicle`s scheduled maintenance (even if it looks okay) to avoid it breaking while you`re on the road.
Insert your belt through the left-side loops first.

Take the end of your belt and insert it into your belt loops with the loop on the front left side of your pants. Thread the strap end through each loop, pulling the belt through as you go. Once you reach the last loop, buckle your belt.

Serpentine belt replacement is easy because today`s automatic drive belt tensioners eliminate the need to loosen bolts or pry components into position for retensioning. Just rotate the tensioner, remove the old belt and install a new one.
There are two belts you need to be familiar with when talking about car maintenance — the serpentine belt and the timing belt. The serpentine belt winds through your engine and carries power to several key components, including the alternator, air conditioning, and power steering pump.
4. Belt Effective Length: The effective length of a belt is the length about the effective outside diameter of a sheave at a specified tension. The effective outside diameter of a sheave is measured where the groove top width is a dimension as specified by RMA, ASAE or SAE standards.
You should measure the belt from the fold (which is the part where the buckle and the leather meet), to the hole where you are currently wearing the belt. For belt sizing, the size of the belt is always from the fold to the middle hole on the other side.
Replacing the timing belt is an expensive service. It is an intricate, labor-intensive process that can take 4–8 hours, depending on the vehicle. But replacing the timing belt before it breaks will prevent engine damage and save you money in the long run.
On most vehicles, it is recommended not only to replace the timing belt, but also many related parts when completing this job. Most vehicles will have a timing-belt kit that will have water pump, tensioners, idlers and other parts needed to complete this job.

A cambelt change is a complicated, labour-intensive procedure that can take 4–8 hours, reliant on the vehicle make and model. But changing the cambelt before it breaks will help you avoid engine damage and save you money in the long run.

DesignJet 1050C belt replacement
ANSWER : There is a good article about the resistance check for the HP Designjet 1050C after replacing or reconnecting the trailing cable. The article has a picture showing all 3 types of test points that were used with this plotter. Note: The very early Designjet 1050C main logic boards had no test points at all. If the dread 0B0006 comes up on this board, all you can do is put a 2A fuse in around F7 or get a new board (non-Plus) The 1050C Plus board is also available but the Error 0B0006 can usually be cured by simply replacing the glass fuse.

Toner cartridge full, printer displays: "empty needs replacing"
ANSWER : I once went to a customer who had a similar issue. They had installed new cartridges and judging from the box, they looked OEM. Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.

Waste Toner Cartridge is empty but printer is still telling me to replace it
ANSWER : All of the ones I’ve seen are optical. Light shines through a transparent section of the waste box onto a photocell. If toner builds up past that area, it gives a warning to replace it. Possibly toner dust has gotten on the photocell.
