That is strange. Only thing I can surmise is that since the A5 is a smaller size, maybe the printer thinks it is supposed to be printing on A4 and that’s why it tries to continue to print. Maybe a setting off in your software?

How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

The photo tray is overloaded. The paper is curled. The print side, or shiny side, of the paper is not loaded in the tray face down. The paper width guide is too tight against the paper stack.
Open the photo tray, and then slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions. Load a stack of photo paper into the tray, with the short edge facing toward the product and the print side down. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.
Turn the printer onto its right side so you can access its underside. Check the gap where the input tray was. Remove any loose paper or other obstructions in the gap. If any paper is jammed inside the gap, grasp the paper with both hands, and then pull the paper slowly but firmly toward you to remove it.
An inkjet printer printing lines or missing lines on printouts are caused when the printer cartridges or the cartridge carriage which contains the print head becomes dirty or damaged.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
Pick up rollers are the rollers that pick up the paper from the tray and feed it to the printer. These parts have also been known to cause a jams after repeated use and eventually may need to be replaced.
Slide the paper all the way into the printer. The leading edge of the paper will stop at the Paper Drive Roller. Locate the Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor on the right side of the paper path. It can be seen from the top of the printer with the Top Cover open and has red, black, and blue wires attached to it.
Paper that is loaded incorrectly in the input tray might prevent the tray from closing completely. Remove any paper from the input tray, and then reload the paper correctly before closing the input tray. Grasp the handle on the input tray, and then pull the tray toward you to open it.
HP Printer Paper Tray Lock A Paper tray lock is used to prevent the tray from accidental use. The lock is used in printers that contain multiple trays. It is mainly used in printers while inserting special papers into the input tray.
Hold the printer with one hand and hold the paper tray with the other hand. Push or pull the paper tray sideways while holding the printer still.

Printer stops pulling paper from tray 2 after a few sheets
ANSWER : Sticking pickup roller solenoid. Pretty easy fix. You need to remove the right side covers. The back one just slides off, but the top holds the front one. I usually just take the 2 right side screws off and gently lift the top enough to pop off the side panel. Open the metal door on the formatter assy. Then release the tab in the middle. There’s also a tab at the front of the panel. When putting it back on, make sure you engage the rocker switch and the metal rod before pushing it into place. When you get it open, you’ll see the solenoid at the bottom front. There’s 1 screw holding it in place. Remove it and take the top plate and spring off. Be careful not to lose the spring. Then scrape off the gooey crap on top and clean off the plate as well. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt in place of the remnants of the disintegrating sponge that HP uses. You can find it at the hardware store used for the bottom of chair legs.
