How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

If your printer is spitting out pages full of strange characters, symbols, or strange formatting, your inkjet printer drivers may be outdated, incompatible with your operating system or corrupt. Drivers are important to the proper function of your inkjet printer and it is best to check for updates regularly.
There are numerous possible causes for a printer that`s randomly producing blanks. The most common ones are empty ink cartridges, improper cartridge installation, and congested nozzles. Driver and software issues can sometimes cause this problem as well.
Please remember inkjet printers work best when used regularly and ink cartridges dry out pretty easily – so printing with black ink only may mean your colour ink cartridge will dry out and go to waste. Again, the best way to save ink is to use both cartridges regularly in draft quality!
Clogs. Inkjet printers can develop clogged cartridges that cause defects in their output, including voids within lines of text. These problems often show up after your hardware sits idle for periods of time, which can cause ink to dry out.
Usually a quick paper setting adjustment will clear up a ghosting issue right away. Run a cleaning – Most printers have a cleaning function built into the machine. Run this a couple of times to attempt to clear up the printing issue. Inspect the drum – Sometimes excess toner powder can stick to the drum.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
When printing, what causes smudges? If your document has black lines and smudges, it`s possible that your printer is dirty. Smears and smudges on the paper can be caused by dirt, dust, or toner accumulated on the rollers or transfer belt as it passes through the paper.
Many printer models require at least some ink in all cartridges to keep printing. However, if you`re lucky, your software may allow you to squeeze out the rest of your color ink without using black.
Regular black has CMYK values of: C = 0, M = 0, Y = 0, K = 100.
By lessening the print queue, the EMF allows the printer to process data faster and therefore print faster. Since images have greater data, EMF delays text print jobs to lessen the printer`s load. But if the user wants to print text, the EMF stays activated, therefore the printer only print images and not text.
In the Word document, go to File > Options. Under the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Print section. Make sure that the checkbox for printing only the data from a form is unchecked.
Shadow printing is a printing technique that creates a lighter shade of the text off centered to make the text appear to have a shadow beneath it.
This is usually a problem with drivers. The only way to solve the problem is to install new drivers or update the one you have been using. Usually, weird characters appearing on your printing papers means there is no communication between your printer and the computer it is connected to.
Streaks on your print jobs are a result of your copier glass being dirty. “Dirt” is created by fingerprints, dust, and other forms collected through usage. Often this will be detected by your device before streaks begin to appear, and a display will read that the glass needs to be cleaned.
Take a cotton swab and moisten it with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Gently rub the paper feed roller in a circular motion, using the moistened cotton swab to remove any toner buildup. If needed, replace the cotton swab with a fresh one to ensure effective cleaning.
Laser printers use toner powder instead of dye or pigment-based ink. Laser printers produce electrostatically charged dots on a light-sensitive drum which attracts toner powder. The toner is transferred to the paper and fixed by a heating process. Laser printers deliver crisp black and white and brilliant color prints.
There is no ribbon, ink or toner involved with direct thermal printing. Instead, the printhead applies pressure and heat directly onto the surface of heat-sensitive thermal paper. The thermal paper reacts to the heat of the printhead, blackening when heated and producing an image or text.
100% Black (K) is mainly used for black text. Technically this standard black is set in InDesign (and other programs) to overprint backgrounds to avoid ink misregistration when the document is printed.
These are the inks used in 4-color process printing. These four colors are combined to create most colors. CMYK colors are subtractive, meaning the colors get darker as they are blended together. The combination of equal amounts of CMY creates black, but not a true black due to the impurities of the inks.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible.
The “Generic Text Only Printer” means that the printing subsystem (probably CUPS) either failed to get more specific model information or did not know how to control your printer in a more advanced way – perhaps because a necessary driver package was missing.
Partial prints are a common issue with printers and there are several main reasons it can occur: Problem with the print spooler (on Windows PCs) Overload of the GPU on later model Macs. Dodgy USB cord.
Make sure that each ink cartridge is firmly in place in its slot. Run your finger along the top of the ink cartridges to feel for any that are protruding, and if any are, press down firmly until each ink cartridge snaps into place. Close the ink cartridge access door. Try the print job again.
