If you still receive the error message Cover is Open, the scanner cover support and scanner cover damper may have not be mounted correctly. The scanner cover support is the bar to support the scanner cover when you lift the scanner cover into the open position.
If the cartridge door is not completely closed, the error message displays. Open, and then close the cartridge door of the product. Make sure that the door rests securely against the body of the product.
Most printers – inkjet and laser – include an outer cover that protects the paper-handling and output mechanisms while they operate.
The error message Cover is open indicates that the top cover, the fuser cover or the ADF (automatic document feeder) cover of your Brother machine is not completely closed.
This usually occurs when one or more toners are not fully seated. Most times it is the black cartridge lock on the left side breaks so the black toner cartridge is sitting a bit out on the left side and the door will not close. Easy to tell. Just remove all the toners and see if you can close the door.
Turn off your printer and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug your printer back in, and then turn the printer back on.
Close the fuser cover by pushing on both the left and right hand side. You will hear a click when the cover is closed securely.
Close all the covers on the printer to prevent dust and debris from getting in. If the printer will be not be used for an extended period of time, protect it with an anti-static cloth or other cover. The print head nozzles can become clogged if dust gets on the print head, and you may not be able to print properly.
For healthier print heads and more efficient ink consumption, however, it`s better to leave your printer on. Constantly switching your printer off and on will decrease your printer`s lifespan, so try to keep the off/on to a minimum.
Open the start menu and select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > and choose the Services icon. Locate the Print Spooler service and right-click. Then select the option to “Stop” the service.
Make sure that the paper is fully inserted into the product. Try printing again. If the issue is not resolved, try loading different brands of paper and different types of paper, one type at a time. Then, try printing again.
To close the Scanning Unit / Cover safely (for instance, after replacing or installing ink, or after removing a paper jam inside the machine), lift the Scanning Unit / Cover slightly, let go and allow the Scanning Unit / Cover to close on its own.

13.20 Paper Jam "Open input trays, then open and close top cover"
ANSWER : Usually, it’s a scrap of paper stuck where the paper comes up out of the tray and takes the bend up into the printer. With the trays out, tilt the printer backwards and look up into the slot. You can usually see the paper stuck in the slot. If not, then take the cartridge out and lift up the flap at the front and look down there.
