I cannot remove the old printer cartridges and I need to replace one. It appears to be locked on the right side of the cartridge. Left side can be moved. All cartridges are the same – none can be removed.

Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
The right side is the cartridge drive mechanism. When you open the door, the 4 cartridge drive shafts retract and let the cartridges be removed. Something must be broken and not allowing it to happen. That’s not an easy thing to repair. I don’t know how good your mechanical skills are. If you take the right side cover off, you can’t see anything happen when you lower the front. You would have to take out the whole gear assy. Like I said, not an easy fix.

You can do this by removing the plastic tabs securing the chip to the cartridge. Use a sharp, thin tool to do this, such as a Swiss army knife or utility knife. Slide the blade of the knife under one of the plastic tabs. Gently pry up.
Solution. A toner cartridge consists of light-sensitive components and intricate mechanical components. Handling the toner cartridge without due care may lead to damage to the toner cartridge or deterioration in print quality.
Hold the ink cartridge under a running water faucet. Keep the cartridge under the faucet until the water runs clear from the bottom of the cartridge. This means all the ink has been washed out and the sponge is clear.
You have the option of disposing of your existing cartridge and replacing it with a new one, but the far most cost-effective option is to empty this waste toner cartridge yourself. Below, we`re going to step you through how you can save on your printing expenses by handling this process yourself.
As long as your printer also has a colour cartridge, all the colours from the colour cartridge will print together to make … BLACK. You`re not going to want to keep it this way forever.
Yes, you can.

The results: Original HP ink cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.

Recycle in-store

Many places accept your used ink cartridges for recycling. Several of the major “big box” retailers have ink disposal containers near where they sell their ink. Office supply stores also have recycling boxes or stations that accept almost every type of inkjet and toner cartridge.

Every Instant Ink cartridge has a unique chip on it that communicates back to HP through your printer – this is why Instant Ink printers must have an internet connection to function. This chip tracks your usage, ink levels etc.
The chip on a printer cartridge helps monitor the ink levels in your cartridge so the printer can notify you when a cartridge is running low.
Excessive shaking or dropping it onto a hard surface could damage your cartridge irreparably. Meddling with the cartridge`s cover or pulling out a cartridge while the printer is in use are both usually bad ideas.
A typical toner cartridge will produce anywhere between 2,500 and 4,000 pages, based on a coverage of 5% (roughly third of a page of double-spaced text). Dense pages filled with small font text or graphics will dramatically reduce this output and you may only get up to 1,000 pages per cartridge.
Studies and experience have shown that laser printer toner powder does not seem to have any short- or long-term toxic effects at all. It may cause a little irritation when it comes into contact with the eyes – but then it can easily be rinsed out using an eyewash station or even just a little water.
Instead, when particles fail to stick to your document, they eventually end up in the waste toner bottle to keep from leaking into the device and interrupting critical functions. Because this waste toner can`t be reused, the bottle needs to be emptied or replaced.
Remove the ink cartridge from your printer and then dip a cotton swab in hot water or isopropyl alcohol and rub it against the print head. This should loosen any crusted ink.
Color Laser Printer or Black & White Laser Printer

As print quality goes down over time, this will be a reason to replace the color printer. We find a black and white printer can sometimes last 10 years or more and most color laser printers are replaced every 3 to 5 years.

Long lasting: toner cartridges not only provide more prints per cartridge – because toner cartridges aren`t liquid, there`s no risk of them drying out over time. So even cartridges that you`ve owned for a long time will still deliver quality prints, even if you haven`t used them for a while.
You can continue to print with one or more empty cartridges, but HP recommends replacing them as soon as possible to avoid printhead damage. 932, 933, 950, 951-959, 962-969 cartridges: Ink is required in all cartridges to print and to perform periodic servicing to prevent clogs and other print quality issues.
To print in single-cartridge mode, remove one of the ink cartridges, and then continue to print as usual. The printer control panel or computer screen might display a message to install the missing cartridge. To clear the message and continue with the print job, click or press OK.
Why the Printer Cartridge won`t Move. A paper jam is usually the reason why an HP printer cartridge gets stuck on the right side. Pushing the paper excessively into the printer, on the other hand, is the most common cause of a paper jam. You should only push the paper until the first resistance.
If you disable your printer`s memory chip from collecting your printer usage information, you can continue using your printer even if the toner or ink is finished. So you want to inspect your printer`s ink level at interval by removing it to avoid your ink running out!
Click the start menu and search for `Devices and Printers`. Select devices and printers in the search bar. This will allow you to see the printers connected to the computer. Click the printer you want to check, and you`ll see the ink levels at the bottom of the devices and printers section.

Removing the print head on a Pixma MX 475?
ANSWER : Take out the ink tanks. On the right side there is a plastic release lever. Lift it up and the heads will unlock. Reach in and remove the heads. Take it to the sink and run hot water through the screens on top and then flip it over and run hot water over the heads. Repeat a few times until the water is clear. Reinstall and try again. It might take a couple pages for the print to look good.

Error message reads remove and check right cartridge
ANSWER : You can try cleaning the contacts on the back of the cartridge and the ones that they contact in the printer. Other than that, you have to replace the cartridge. I once had one that did the same thing. I swapped the cartridge with another printer of the same model and both printers worked fine. I swapped them back and the original printer got the same error. The other printer had no problem with either cartridge. I swapped them back and left them that way.

Print file sent but no printing occurs
ANSWER : Been working on these since they first were released. Never seen a problem like yours. If it happens again, try doing an engine test, as it bypasses the formatter board. The engine test is located at the right side of the manual tray opening. Look for a hole in the side wall. Stick something like a paper clip into it to actuate the test button. It will then print a lined test page. If it does that, then it points to the formatter board as the cause of your problem.
