Tracing a Schematic Tutorial

To do it, you must be able to recognise components and read their values, or type numbers. You must also know their circuit symbols. If working on printed circuit boards, it helps if you are able to see both sides of the board. You must isolate the power before doing this.

Printed circuit board (PCB) in electronics explained

A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board with circuits that connect electronic components together. PCB`s are used in computers and other electronic devices and are made of an electrically non-conductive material, usually fibreglass.

Use the free multimeter`s probe to touch a single spot on the board. Then using your finger with the foil move it over the components touching the soldered parts. Thus you will cover more area quicker and when you hear the multimeter beeping – you have found your track on the PCB.
To use a tone generator, clamp the transmitter to the wire in question. The device will send a signal through the wire, and when using the receiver on the other end, it will make a chirping sound when the matching wire is found. This eliminates the need to trace a wire through the wall.
In a schematic diagram, lines are used to represent wires, and symbols are used to represent components. The schematic diagram does not show the practical connection between the components or their position. It contains only symbols and lines.
Luckily, it`s possible to repair or remanufacture boards to make them like new again. This does one of two things. Either the board in question can be returned to its original device, making it function again. Or, it can be used in a completely different device, as a form of recycling if you will.
Environmental Factors: Exposure to heat, dust and moisture, accidental impact (drops and falls), and power overloads/surges can be causes of circuit board failure. However, the most damaging cause of premature circuit board failure is electrostatic discharge (ESD) at the assembly stage.
printer, also called computer printer, electronic device that accepts text files or images from a computer and transfers them to a medium such as paper or film.
Electronics. A printer`s electronics consist of a microprocessor and memory, a control panel and other components. The microprocessor receives a document from the user`s computer and converts it into a series of tiny dots that form the image on the page.
1、 Check whether the surface of the integrated circuit chip has been polished. The polished chip surface will have fine lines or even micro marks printed before. Some chip surfaces are coated with a thin layer of paint to cover up, which looks a little shiny and has no plastic texture. Look at the printing.
Bridge all the pins on the IC side and connect them to one of the multimeter €™ s test probes. Test each IC pin with the remaining multimeter test probe: if there €™ continuity is in more than 50% of the pins, then the IC is likely to be short-circuited.
First thing to check is connectors, loose cables, and on a cheap PCB base material as this, broken eyelets and traces. The voltage regulator near the battery input is sure a standard IC, find its number and then the datasheet, then check if there is the advertized output voltage when the battery is connected.
To find a wire with no power, one of the handiest tools is the stud finder. It is an electronic device that emits a small electrical or magnetic field that detects any change in denser areas of the wall or metal nails. You can also detect the wires behind the walls depending on the unit.
If the power source has a direct current (DC), you`ll see a plus and minus sign on the top and bottom of the circle, respectively. Constant power sources are indicated with a downward facing arrow in the middle of the circle. The power source sends different types of electrical currents throughout the circuit.
Types of Electrical Diagrams or Schematics

There are three ways to show electrical circuits. They are wiring, schematic, and pictorial diagrams. The two most commonly used are the wiring diagram and the schematic diagram.

There are programmable circuit boards that do not require a device programmer or new hardware for a new code to be loaded onto the board to reprogram the circuit board. Modern-day PCBs have USB capabilities, and with a USB cable, new code can be loaded onto the board successfully.
Most of the standard multilayer PCBs have between 4 and 8 layers. Depending on how complicated the application is, smartphones can have up to 12 layers.
A motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) in a computer. The motherboard is a computer`s central communications backbone connectivity point, through which all components and external peripherals connect.
Vibrating, dropping, hitting or bending the PCB can cause it to deform and cause the crack to appear, while high current or overvoltage can cause the PCB to break down or cause rapid aging of components and paths.
A power source is mandatory for all printers. Before a printer can perform any useful function, it must be turned on.
An average ink-jet which is designed for home use will typically use 30 to 50 watts when it is printing, in standby mode most printers will draw around 3 to 5 watts of power. Commercial printers which are used in an office will draw 30 to 50 watts on standby and 300 to 500 watts when printing.
Typically, 24 Volt are used when “regular” power is available. Solar power asks for 12 Volt. Thermal printers draw high currents for very short time periods (usually under one millisecond).
A microcontroller manages the printer and checks to make sure paper is available, all internal functions are ready and controls the printhead driver and the motor. It also interfaces to some basic switches for the user (on/off, paper advance) as well as some basic indicator LEDs (unit ready, fault) (Figure 3).
Serial port is the oldest form of interface that used to connect a printer to a computer.

Printer will not power up
ANSWER : The switch is actually just a plastic piece that moves a metal rod that actuates the real switch in the back. I’ve seen where the rod pops out. Can you hear a click when you rock the switch back and forth? Otherwise, it would be a bad controller board. That is the large board at the bottom of the printer. Never seen one do that in that model.

will not print, but has power
ANSWER : I’ve gone out on service calls with this problem. One had a breaker popped. The other was an engineering firm. If it was plugged in and they said “We’re engineers”. It was plugged into the wall, but it wasn’t plugged all the way into the printer. One person brought in a printer and I switched on the power on the side of the printer. “It has a power switch?”

Epson Stylus sx130 Printer does not power on…
ANSWER : I have had the same problem with Epson px660. I have replaced the main board twice with the same problem recurring after printing many copies of documents..there are some transistors at the back of the main board which when removed the printer will power on but will not recognize the cartridge..so I’m still wondering of the power supply is short circuiting the main board…a
