A cybercriminal can absolutely hack into your printer and gain access to all the documents you`ve printed from there whether it be an essay or a tax form. Here are some signs to look for to show that your printer has been hacked and what steps you can take to prevent this from happening.
Open the start menu and select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > and choose the Services icon. Locate the Print Spooler service and right-click. Then select the option to “Stop” the service.
Just like computers, printers have volatile memory (RAM) that is removed when you turn the printer off. Volatile memory requires power to store the information. Deleting volatile memory is easy: Simply shut down or unplug your printer for a minute or so.
Printers can serve as entry points for malware attacks. Hackers exploit vulnerabilities in printer software or firmware to install malicious software, jeopardizing the entire network`s security. Once inside your network, malware can spread to other devices, disrupt operations, steal data, or launch further attacks.
Run a virus scan

After installing your antivirus software, you need to check your computer for any malware by running a full virus scan. A comprehensive scanner will search your computer for any malicious code hiding in Windows, and it will get rid of it. Open your antivirus app and select Run Smart Scan.

A printer is actually a pretty smart computer. It has an operating system, runs software, and can activate a variety of actions, including malicious activity if commanded to do so. Even more so, the printer is a gateway to your network, but unlike on the endpoints – you can`t install an antivirus on your printer.
Your office printer may have silently left your company`s data at risk for decades. Printers can store data and provide access to personal information and passwords. Printers pose security risks in several ways, including cloud printing and printers serving as an attack point for code.
Un-authorized printing jobs− If your machine is printing unknown documents that nobody authorized, your printer may be compromised. Error messages− If your printer is displaying error messages or printing documents with error messages instead of the actual document, your printer may be corrupted.

Wireless printers can be a security risk because they are connected to your network and are often left unsecured. If a hacker gains access to your printer, they can not only steal sensitive information that you have printed, but they can also use your printer to distribute malware or print fraudulent documents.
Click on Device Manager from the context menu. In Device Manager, click on View and select Show hidden devices. Next, expand the Printers section to view your printer.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
Over time dirt and dust accumulate inside the printer, which affects it`s functionality. Cleaning a printer regularly can prevent a low print quality or damage to the device.
The best way to check for malware on your phone is to use a mobile security app like free AVG Antivirus for Android. Run a scan. After installing AVG Antivirus, open the app and run an antivirus scan to find malware hidden in your device`s system.

Horrible lines in copying or scanning
ANSWER : If you are using the ADF, all pages are scanned with the scanner stationary on the left side. There is a small glass above the scanner and if there is anything on it, dust, whiteout, ink etc. it will interpret it as a line. First solution would be to clean the glass with window cleaner and a paper towel. If that doesn’t solve it, then scan the page on the flat glass and see if the problem continues.
