How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :
Get a flat something to use as a pry bar. I would suggest the back of a spoon handle, or a dull table knife. Insert the pry bar between the top of the cartridge and the underside of the carriage slot. Slide it forward and then gently lift the pry bar slightly, just enough to allow the cartridge to be pulled free.
To print in single-cartridge mode, remove one of the ink cartridges, and then continue to print as usual. The printer control panel or computer screen might display a message to install the missing cartridge. To clear the message and continue with the print job, click or press OK.
Most commonly “Cartridge Problem” means that your HP printer simply cannot recognise the colour or black ink cartridges. Thankfully however this error message can usually be cleared with some basic troubleshooting.
Cradle (Carriage) The portion of the printer where the inkjet cartridges are installed.
Why the Printer Cartridge won`t Move. A paper jam is usually the reason why an HP printer cartridge gets stuck on the right side. Pushing the paper excessively into the printer, on the other hand, is the most common cause of a paper jam. You should only push the paper until the first resistance.
Press the tiny reset button located beside the chip and hold for 10 seconds. Depending on the brand and model of the cartridge, you may not need to hold the button for 10 seconds, but it won`t harm the cartridge so do it anyway just to be safe.
You can continue to print with one or more empty cartridges, but HP recommends replacing them as soon as possible to avoid printhead damage.
Once a cartridge has been used until it is empty the chip records that the cartridge has no remaining ink or toner and so when it`s refilled, the chip needs to be reset. If this isn`t done, then the printer will fail to recognise the cartridge.
The printhead lock is a piece of plastic that prevents the printhead from moving towards the left. A common way to unlock it is by turning on the power. As soon as you see the lock moves, you`ll cut the power off.
When you will not be printing for a long time, it is best to remove the cartridges from the printer and store them in a sealed, airtight container. Doing this will need extra precautions because improper storage can instead destroy the cartridges.
If the printer has been printing continuously for a long time, the Print Head Holder may not move to the center since the Print Head may overheat. Opening the Top Cover while printing moves the Print Head Holder to the right. Close the Top Cover, and reopen it after printing finishes.
Leave the ink cartridges installed when you transport the printer. Transporting the printer with the cartridges removed can damage the printer.
Resetting HP Ink Cartridges. There is no reset button on an ink cartridge by HP either. However, the process of its resetting is similar to an entertaining game, and if done correctly, you`ll be back to printing in only a few minutes. Remove your cartridge from the printer and refill it with ink if needed.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible.
You can only install two black ink cartridges if your printer uses two different types of black ink. If you are trying to install a black ink cartridge in a color cartridge slot, your printer will not function and you could potentially cause damage to the machine.
HP`s “dynamic security” prevents you from using third-party ink with HP printers. While HP does this to “protect the quality of our customer experience,” being able to buy cheaper, non-HP ink can save you money.
Disable the Cartridge Policy feature
In the bottom navigation pane, select Config, and then select Supplies. In the Cartridge Policy section, select Off. Click Apply.
Using a generic or refilled ink cartridge won`t automatically void your warranty, but it`s important to note that any damage caused specifically from using a non-HP ink product won`t be covered by the warranty for your HP printer.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts: one of the most common reasons you might get a cartridge problem error when your cartridges are new and full is the contacts on the cartridge might be dirty or otherwise obscured from making good contact with the electronics in the printer head carriage.
Missing colours, streaky prints, smudges and ink blotches are all signs that your printer ink or toner cartridge may be damaged. Some printers will actually warn you if a cartridge is damaged and will refuse to print. This includes HP ink cartridges, Samsung toner cartridges and Canon ink cartridges.
The most common reason a refilled ink cartridge does not work is that you didn`t reinstall the cartridge properly. Check the cartridge and make sure it is not dislodged or misaligned. If there is no visible sign of misinstallation, remove the cartridge and reinstall it.
If your printer won`t print, a print job has stopped unexpectedly, or you received a “carriage jam” error, your printer carriage is likely jammed. These jams occur when the carriage holding the ink cartridges stalls in the printer. Carriage jams sometimes occur after a paper jam.

HP Photosmart 8750 intermittent serv. stat. stuck
ANSWER : I had this error after the printer sat idle for many months. I thought it was the cartridge drive belt stretching, because it was extremely loose and wouldn’t move the carriage due to slippage. Then I noticed there was a gear belt tensioner to the right side that had some movement. Sure enough, when I shined a flashlight into the ink reservoir, there was a spring that had fallen down inside. Looking at the plastic belt tensioner, it looks as if the spring was held on by a plastic post that had broken off. This is most likely the cause of many of these errors, because the plastic break is very clean and not readily visible, (a design flaw in my opinion). Rather than trying to replace the part, I am going to try tapping a hole in the plastic and inserting a machine screw that can hold the tension spring in place. It also looks like the metal notch for the right hand loop of the spring, would not prevent the spring from slipping off at some point, so using a metal file to enlarge the notch may be necessary. If you’re lucky, your spring may have just popped off and is inside the ink reservoir. This may be one reason why the printer was discontinued so soon. One lousy five dollar part makes the whole printer worthless… I use this this printer primarily because it is easy to clean the heads by removing the carts, instead of having to disassemble the whole damn thing, as in ink tank designs. It makes beautiful 13×19 prints with better color accuracy than my Vivera 6 ink printer.

incompatible ink cartridge message
ANSWER : Pretty much nothing else you can do except try another new cartridge. I had 2 identical HP printers once in the shop. One of them didn’t like one of the cartridges. I swapped it over with the other printers cartridge and it was happy. So was the other printer. Swapped the cartridges back and it didn’t like it again. How do you explain that? You don’t.
