The main reason for Unknown Device to display in your Device Manager is because you have a device that is not working correctly. To fix this issue, obtain an updated driver for the device. Use the following methods to enable Windows to recognize your device.
Do a hard reset on your printer. To do this you just need to turn off your printer, unplug for a few minutes and then plug the printer again. If that still doesn`t work, try turning the printer and your computer off, and then start it back up again. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling your printer driver.
An unknown device is a device name listed in Device Manager that Windows cannot identify or doesn`t have the appropriate drivers to be recognized. The picture is an example of how an unknown device may appear in Device Manager.
Open Device Manager. Right-click Unknown device and click Update Driver Software. Select the `Search automatically for updated driver software` option, then Windows will install the new driver automatically.
Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Locate the Printer troubleshooter, and click on the Run button. Once the wizard completes the process, reconnect the printer and check if the issue is resolved.
It doesn`t slow down your computer as there are no processes or CPU activity associated with them. It adds clutter to Device manager and in general I would say that you should either remove them or fix them. But it won`t have an impact on performance.
Printers show up under “unspecified” when Windows cannot associate an appropriate driver. If you have recently installed the driver, simply rebooting your PC can resolve the unspecified status.
In the Start Menu, click Settings. In the SETTINGS window, click Devices. In the DEVICES screen, click Printers & scanners or Connected devices, and under the Related Settings category, click Device manager.
Select the View menu and turn on Show Hidden Devices. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry for the device you want to uninstall, and select Uninstall.
You`ll see information about Unknown Devices in the Device Manager. To open it on Windows 10, 8.1, or 8, right-click in the bottom-left corner of the screen or press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager. On Windows 7, press Windows Key + R, type devmgmt. msc into the Run dialog, and press Enter.
Click on Start menu and type `Computer Management` in the search box. Open Computer Management, click on `Device Manager` on left side menu of computer management window. If any of drivers is missing the section will be expanded automatically and marked with a little yellow color mark / warning symbol.
To remove printer and driver on Windows 10, open Settings > Printers & scanners, select the printer, and click “Remove device.” Then open Print management > Custom Filters > All Drivers, right-click the driver, and select “Delete.”
To reinstall the printer, select Add device and then select the name of the printer you want to add. If Windows doesn`t automatically find a new driver after the printer is added, look for one on the device manufacturer`s website and follow their installation instructions.
Updated: 02/01/2021 by Computer Hope. A default printer is a printer all print jobs are sent to unless otherwise specified. Having a default printer prevents a program from asking the user what printer they want to use each time they print.
Set default printer through Command Prompt. This option works best if you like to have precise control over your hardware settings. Open the Command Prompt, and then type in “wmic printer get name, default” (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Devices that you install that are not connected to the computer (such as a Universal Serial Bus [USB] device or “ghosted” devices) are not displayed in Device Manager, even when you click Show hidden devices.
Monitor ghosting occurs when an image artifact appears as a trail of pixels behind a moving object, almost like a motion blur. This is referred to as ghosting because it creates a trace of the image that looks like a ghost.
Can MDM track browsing history? No, not generally. Most MDM solutions only track and monitor the apps installed on a device, not its web browsing history.
If you turn off mobile management and prevent devices from syncing work data: Users can`t use their work accounts to sign in to apps on their mobile devices. They can still sign in to web versions of Gmail and other services through a browser app.
Generally speaking, if your system is working properly and you don`t get prompted about an update, you will hardly ever feel the need to update your drivers. And as long as there are no security issues with the drivers you have, that is fine.
Device drivers are an essential piece of software that helps different hardware components work smoothly with your computer. When these drivers are properly updated, your computer will run smoothly.
An incompatible driver or corrupt file may be the reason you experience the Driver Unavailable error. Luckily, this is easy to fix if you take a methodical approach. All you need to do is check for any Windows updates and then install the latest driver for your printer.

Canon BJC-70 error message F 12
ANSWER : I am having the same problem, not only with my BJC-70, but also the equivalent problem with my BJC-80. Typically I am working at my computer, and the printer is powered up, but idle. All of a sudden for no apparent reason, it emits a series of beeps and returns the print head to the central position. The BJC-70 display Error F12. With the BJC80 you have to count the beeps. The problem seems to be caused by some sort of premature failure of the print head, due to an electronic fault. Sometimes, if the printer is powered down for a few minutes or longer, it will work normally for a short time after power is re-applied, but typically the problem recurs within 30 minutes, and this period of trouble free operation gradually reduces, until the print head will not work at all. The only solution is to replace the offending print head. You should, however, retain the failed head, in order to salvage any un-used ink remaining in the tanks. The new print head comes with full ink tanks. As soon as one of these fails, I replace it with an ink tank retrieved from the failed head. I don’t discard the failed head until both ink tanks have been retrieved.
