Ink pads are a series of porous pads in the printer that gather, distribute, and, most crucially, contain ink that is not utilized on printed pages. These pads collect ink during the product`s initial setup, cleaning cycles, and while printing borderless images.
If an error message appears indicating the printer`s ink pads are nearing the end of their service life, contact Epson support to replace them. The message will be displayed at regular intervals until the ink pads are replaced.
Depending on how “rugged” a surface you`re printing on, a pad should last between 50,000 and 100,000 impressions. Improper use, careless machine operation or stray grit however, can decrease the pad`s life. What should i watch for when I`m pad printing?
The maintenance box stores surplus ink that gets collected during printing or print head cleaning. When you see a message on the LCD screen, follow the on-screen instructions to replace the maintenance box. Note: When the maintenance box is full, you cannot print or clean the print head until it is replaced.
Beyond the problems caused with your printer, using ink that has passed it`s expiry can also result in issues with your prints. Some of the pigment may disappear from the solution, for example, causing variations in colour to occur. Your prints won`t turn out as expected, which can result in some very unhappy clients.
You can check the status of your maintenance box using your product`s LCD screen. Press the home button, if necessary. Select Maintenance > Maintenance Box Service Life and press the OK button. You see the remaining ink capacity of the maintenance box.
When an ink cartridge is expended or the maintenance box is at the end of its service life, you need to replace it. You may also need to replace a cartridge that is more than six months old if your printouts do not look their best, even after cleaning and aligning the print head.
If you are using a maintenance box that is near the end of its service life, you may need to replace it while printing. If you replace the maintenance box while printing, especially on glossy paper, colors on the printout may be uneven depending on how the ink dries.
In general, you should update your printer maintenance kit every one to two years.
Epson UltraChrome HDX ink has a roughly two-year shelf-life after manufacture, and the dates printed on the cartridges and boxes show both the packaging date for that batch of ink and also the date two years in the future when the ink will expire.
Expired ink can affect color accuracy.
The ink may be streaky or appear less vibrant than fresh, non-expired ink. Print quality is reduced and color accuracy is hard to achieve. Contract proofs, display images, fine art prints, and most any type of high-quality inkjet print can be compromised by using expired ink.
To find out which cartridge requires replacing, see Using the printer`s control panel, or check EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows) or EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh). Caution: Do not move the print head by hand, as this may damage the printer. Always press the ink cartridge replacement button to move it.
Turn the printer on at least once every two weeks to automatically clean the print head and prevent the nozzles from clogging. If you do not turn on the printer for a long time, the printer may malfunction.
Epson printer utilities allow you to check the current printer status and maintain certain features of your printer from your computer. To use the utilities, click the Maintenance tab in the printer software, then click the button for the utility that you want to use.
Run a nozzle check to confirm that the print head is clean. You may need to clean the print head up to 4 times. You can also turn off your Epson printer and wait at least 6 hours. Then try printing again.
