How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

The common reasons for this issue are various, for instance, the paper input tray is overloaded, dust or moisture can affect the paper feed or paper pick rollers, the printer driver is old, etc. Thus, the printer cannot detect the paper that has been inserted into the tray.
Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth. Press the cloth against the roller, and then rotate the roller with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove any dust or dirt buildup. Repeat this step for each roller.
Paper is housed in the printer`s paper tray, and most trays can be found along the bottom of the printer. There is usually a small notch on the face of the tray that pulls out so you can insert the paper.
Typically, the top of the paper comes out first and face up. This means if you are standing in front of the printer looking down at tray where the paper comes out, you should see your printed page, but it will be upside down.
Creases and folds in the paper are normally due to one of the following conditions: The paper is not correctly loaded in the paper tray. You are printing on a special type of paper or other media. The paper has absorbed too much moisture from the surrounding air.
Load the paper into the paper tray before sending the data to the printer. When the printer receives data from the computer, it feeds a single sheet and begins to print.
Tray 2 holds up to 250 sheets of 75 g/m2 paper.
The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers. The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly. The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product. The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
Move the duplex tray to the lowered position, green button at front of paper tray cavity is pushed and then slide the tray forward. You will see the rollers at the back if the cavity. They are grey, and should have ridges on them. Clean them with a lint free cloth dampened with water.
With dot matrix printers, paper is often feed through pins on a wheel that grab and slowly move paper through the printer. With inkjet and other page printers, paper is fed through the printer with rollers that grab and move the paper through the printer.
Exit roller– (delivery roller) The exit roller is part of the fuser or delivery assembly of the printer which helps to drive paper to the output tray.
Sheet feeder: Holds the blank paper and automatically feeds the paper during printing.

Paper jam in tray 2 (but no paper pulled from tray) also M476DN models
ANSWER : Isopropyl alcohol is not recommended for rubber rollers. It dries out the rubber and hasten it’s cracking and breaking. It will do nothing to restore the grip. Those rollers are really hard to replace. It would be easy if that dumbass secondary menu really worked. None of the techs I’ve spoke to ever got into it. Everyone I know sends a print job and listens for the roller to rotate into position where you can pull it off.

Tray 1 (upper tray) paper feed problem
ANSWER : There is no way of adjusting the distance of lift. Could be that the pickup roller is worn enough that it will pick up a sheet that is higher, but not one that is lower down. You can look at the end of the roller that first makes contact and see if it is worn smooth.

Printer stops pulling paper from tray 2 after a few sheets
ANSWER : Sticking pickup roller solenoid. Pretty easy fix. You need to remove the right side covers. The back one just slides off, but the top holds the front one. I usually just take the 2 right side screws off and gently lift the top enough to pop off the side panel. Open the metal door on the formatter assy. Then release the tab in the middle. There’s also a tab at the front of the panel. When putting it back on, make sure you engage the rocker switch and the metal rod before pushing it into place. When you get it open, you’ll see the solenoid at the bottom front. There’s 1 screw holding it in place. Remove it and take the top plate and spring off. Be careful not to lose the spring. Then scrape off the gooey crap on top and clean off the plate as well. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt in place of the remnants of the disintegrating sponge that HP uses. You can find it at the hardware store used for the bottom of chair legs.
