Default print jobs are formatted to fit an 8.5-inch by 11-inch piece of paper. Depending on what type of document you`re printing and what program you`re using to print it, it may be labeled “Letter.” A4 size paper, on the other hand, is closer to 8.25-inches by 11.75-inches.
Click on Control Panel. Select and open the Devices and Printers option. Right click on the Default Printer, and select Printing Preferences. Look for the Paper Size option.
The standard includes the familiar Letter (8.5 in × 11 in) and Legal (8.5 in × 14 in), but also some additional sizes you may not use as often.
Letter is the standard for business and academic documents.
A default printer is the printer, which all print jobs are sent to unless otherwise is specified – in other words: your primary printer. The installation of a default printer prevents Lasernet from asking the user what printer they want to use each time they print a business document.
Standard US sizes
Letter size as mentioned before is the equivalent of A4, this would be used for general printing at home, letters, flyers, homework – you name it. Ledger (landscape) or Tabloid (portrait) is slightly larger than A3 and could be used for small posters, menus and record keeping.
Right-click the printer icon ( ) for your printer, and then select Printing preferences. Select your new default print settings (paper size, orientation, etc.), and then click OK.

Printers are designed to roam with a user`s roaming profile, and this is why the default printer is stored under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch of the registry.

A4 paper dimensions.
With A4 size paper, the number `four` refers to the fact that the dimensions of a4 paper are the same as a sheet of A0 paper that has been cut in half four times. So, A4 is 16 times smaller than A0.
Everyone, even the uninitiated, knows that A4 is the classic paper size for printers and as such it is used for standard documents from letters to forms. It`s the format of school notepads, children`s books, encyclopaedias (which need more space for illustrations), magazines and leaflets.

User-defined paper sizes can be specific to a single print server and are typically customized for a specific application. Hence they are often called customized paper sizes. System administrators use the print folder to define customized paper sizes.
Copy paper is both slightly cheaper and slightly thinner than printer paper. If you only need to print text, you can use either kind. When it comes to printing documents with images, you`ll need to select thicker printer paper, which weighs more.

Copy Paper vs Printer Paper
Copy paper is slightly thinner and less expensive than printer paper. When printing documents with text, you can use the two interchangeably. It won`t make much of a difference beyond the amount of light that passes through each sheet of paper, which depends on the weight.
