I use a Mac with Mavericks operating system and have downloaded the appropriate drivers. This is an inherited printer and I don’t have an installation CD.

How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

The common reasons for this issue are various, for instance, the paper input tray is overloaded, dust or moisture can affect the paper feed or paper pick rollers, the printer driver is old, etc. Thus, the printer cannot detect the paper that has been inserted into the tray.
If the paper feed rollers are dirty or have paper dust on them, the paper may not be fed properly. When this happens, you`ll need to clean the rollers twice: once with paper loaded, and once without.
Open the operation panel and check for any foreign objects inside the printer. If you see any foreign objects, remove them. Then, plug in the power cord and turn the printer on. If the message continues to appear and there was no visible debris found, the printer will require servicing.
Click on Control Panel. Select and open the Devices and Printers option. Right click on the Default Printer, and select Printing Preferences. Look for the Paper Size option.
Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Printers. Right-click the appropriate printer, and then click Properties. Click the Paper tab, and then click the paper size you want to use in the Paper Size box.
The paper trays are empty or overloaded. The paper is curled. The print side, or shiny side, of the paper is not loaded in the tray face down. For photo paper, always load the rougher side of the paper facing up.
If roll paper does not feed, cut the end straight across and uncurl it by rolling it backward, if necessary. Then reload the paper. If thick media does not feed, make sure you are loading it straight into the product, not at an angle. If paper jams when you print on both sides of the paper, try loading fewer sheets.
Ink has run out. (The lamp on the ink tank flashes.) If printing is in progress, stop printing, replace the ink tank, and then print again. Printing under the current condition may damage the printer.
On the Print area of the File options, click the Print option to open the Print dialog box. Change the page format setup or other print options or printer selection as needed, and then click OK to print your report.
If your printer displays a “door open” error message, the first thing to do is check the front panel to see if the nipple is still there. Check if you can click the front door panel shut. If it refuses to click closed, you will simply have to check for obstructions until you can get it to close.
Gently press on the edge of the extender that is inside the paper tray. The extender should give slightly. It`s now loose. Remove the tool and close the extender.
To close the Scanning Unit / Cover safely (for instance, after replacing or installing ink, or after removing a paper jam inside the machine), lift the Scanning Unit / Cover slightly, let go and allow the Scanning Unit / Cover to close on its own.

Paper feeds straight through without printing on an Epson R2400
ANSWER : I was able to get it to print the internal test page by holding down the sheet paper feed button while turning the machine on — then continuing to hold the sheet paper feed button. It took several attempts, feeding a page straight through, but eventually it caught the sheet and printed. So it may be a timing issue as others have mentioned. It could still mean that the feed rollers are worn out. The back side of the large D-shaped feed roller has visible abrasion on it. The abrasion is difficult to see as the roller does not stay with the flat side exposed.

13.20 Paper Jam "Open input trays, then open and close top cover"
ANSWER : Usually, it’s a scrap of paper stuck where the paper comes up out of the tray and takes the bend up into the printer. With the trays out, tilt the printer backwards and look up into the slot. You can usually see the paper stuck in the slot. If not, then take the cartridge out and lift up the flap at the front and look down there.
