If your drum is not recognizing in the printer, there may be an issue with the gold chip on the end of the toner cartridge. This chip communicates with the printer to create a print and if it is not reading properly, the toner / drum unit will not work. Sometimes fingerprint oil or dust can cause this error.
The size of the paper loaded in the tray indicated by the error may be different from that specified for printing. Or, the orientation (portrait/landscape) of the paper loaded in the tray may be incorrect. Load paper of the size specified for printing into the device.
“DRUM LIFE” or “REPLACE DRUM” is a rough indicator that the image drum cartridge has reached the end of its life. If there are no problems with print quality even if this message appears, continue to use until there is no toner left. When out of toner, replace the image drum cartridge and toner cartridge together.
Drum Error typically appears when the corona wire on the drum unit needs to be cleaned or when the drum unit needs to be replaced. Use an activated toner cloth, stretched tautly, and carefully wipe down the drum exterior to remove loose toner. Then use a cotton ball saturated with 99% pure isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Clean any patches of stubborn toner still attached to the drum. Use toner cloth or lint-free microfiber to clean the print rollers.
Why do I need a drum? Without a drum unit, the toner powder in the cartridge cannot be transferred onto the page. The two parts work together to create a print! You can`t have one without the other and expect the printer to work properly.
A paper jam has occurred around the front cover. When the error code 401 is displayed, paper may have automatically ejected. In this case, open and close the front cover to clear the error.
A degraded drum unit can cause streaks, smudges, and blank spots on your printed page even if you just inserted a new printer toner. While a broken drum unit won`t break your printer, it will just fail to stop printing at a certain point.
The image drum can print approximately 50,000 sheets of A4-sized paper (for simplex printing), but the actual printable number of sheets may vary with the usage condition. The above number is based on the general usage condition (three sheets at a time).

ANSWER : HI there, oki image drums contain a fuse. You can reset them if they are working/printing ok by replacing the fuse. Hope this helps. The fuse is located inside the unit so is a bit fiddly.

ANSWER : You can, but there are good knock-offs and bad ones. I’ve run into ones that come totally empty. Ones that don’t have the chips installed that identify themselves to the printer. Ones that have sat on a shelf for years and fail on installation. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the idea.
