This noise can be due to any one of the following: A piece of paper, or other obstruction, is stuck somewhere inside the printer. One of the toner cartridges or photo developer units may be installed incorrectly or may be damaged. A door or cover may not be closed completely.
Laser printers are not very noisy in operation. Compared to the thump-thump of an inkjet and the shriek of dot-matrix machines they are generally quiet. You will even notice a difference between the sound output when choosing between laser or inkjet printers. Laser printers tend to be much quieter than inkjet printers. Considering the amount of time it takes inkjet printers to complete jobs, the extra sound can be annoying.
This is most likely due to your print speed being set too low or the density being set too high. Please set your print speed to “5” and the density to “4” and print. Adjust (lower) Speed / Density and click OK.
A quick DIY fix for this is to put a thick yoga mat under your printers to dampen the sound, or even carpet. This does the trick because it absorbs the vibrations below the printer. Some people have put sponges and even foam underneath to get the same result.
With standard printers, dot matrix is commonly the lowest quality printer, inkjet printers are commonly average quality, and laser printers are commonly the best quality. Remove the rear access door, or the automatic two-sided printing accessory, and check for any paper jams or paper obstructions. Remove any obstructions. Check to make certain the carriage is on the right side of the printer. Rotate the rear paper guide rollers upwards five times, then downwards four times.
In Windows, search for and open HP Command Center. On the Thermal Profile tab, select the quiet mode.
