A printed version of a document can ensure that important documents can be stored safely as it does not depend on electrical power to be accessible and can be easier to reference. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, the suggested quick steps might help.
The first inkjet printer was developed by Hewlett-Packard in 1976. However, inkjet printers do not gain popularity until the mid-1980s. IBM introduced the IBM 3800 Printing System, the first high-speed laser printer, in 1976. Siemens developed the first DOD (drop-on-demand) inkjet printer in 1977.
The first electronic printer was the EP-101, created by Japanese company Epson in 1968. It was a tiny printer, only 164 millimetres in width, 102 millimetres in height and 135 millimetres in depth and weighing just 2.5 kilograms. The printer was created by Epson (Shinshu Seiki Co.)
Goldsmith and inventor Johannes Gutenberg was a political exile from Mainz, Germany when he began experimenting with printing in Strasbourg, France in 1440. He returned to Mainz several years later and by 1450, had a printing machine perfected and ready to use commercially: The Gutenberg press.

Many printer models won`t print if there`s a loose USB connection or if they`re out of ink or paper. Verify your printer`s ink levels, clean the printhead, fill the paper tray, and avoid using substandard paper.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, you`ll find a small button. You`ve seen these tiny buttons before on cell phones, phone chargers, etc. This is your reset button, and the only way to get in there is either with a paper clip or the tip of a pen (which will leave a tiny ink smudge on the button).
The reset key is a single use key and once used cannot be used again. All EPSON printers have inbuilt counters that count up the number of pages a printer produces, the number of head cleans executed and various other attributes. Once a critical level is reached the printer will enter its service mode.
The average lifespan of a printer is around 3-5 years. With proper upkeep and maintenance, some printers can last longer, but eventually your machine will need an upgrade.
Laser printers and inkjet printers continue to be popular in the home as well as at the office, with each printer style and model offering its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here`s what you should consider when deciding between inkjet vs. laser printers.
Worldwide, inkjets are still the number one type of printer. Monochrome laser printers are in decline as color-capable models become more affordable. But for the most part, printer sales have leveled off in the U.S. and other economically advanced countries.

If you use the printer more frequently than average or if you`re using it for a business, you might find the life of your printer is shorter. Inkjet printers have a lifespan on the lower end, while laser printers last a little longer.
If your cartridge is stored properly in the correct environment, you might still be able to use it after the expiration date. Granted, a sealed ink cartridge won`t last forever, but most are designed to last for at least two years after the purchase date.

ANSWER : After Windows 98, Canon stopped supporting the BJC 70/80/85 series. Drivers were available for W98 and earlier, but now these are no longer carried on the Canon website. I now have my BJC 70 & 80 working, not only on a virtual machine running WinXP but also on the host which runs W8.1.In the case of Win XP it seems that a 3rd party driver was used, but I am mystified as to how it got onto the W8.1 machine, because I have a vivid recollection that the BJC managed to auto-install itself as soon as it was plugged into the USB port without any action by myself. I never expected it to work with Win8.1. I was resigned to using it only with the Virtual copy of WinXP, which meant that the printer needed to be connected only AFTER the virtual machine was booted. Now my little Bubble-Jets are accessible both from both the virtual client and the host. The most likely explanation is that I did actually find and download a 3rd party driver for Win8.1 and that I have had amnesia.
