Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information. Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
From the printer website, find the Web Services menu, and then click Print Info Page or Print Information Sheet. Find the Printer Code or Printer Claim Code on the page that prints. If the information page only has the printer`s email address, remove and then re-enable Web Services.
Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address. Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer. Now go to the Security Tab – Administrative Settings. Uncheck the “Control Panel Lock”.
Start by checking your hardware
If you`re using a wired printer, make sure that the printer cable is properly connected from the printer to your PC. For wireless printers, check the wireless connection. Make sure the printer`s wireless option is turned on and available.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Under Add printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner. Choose the printer you want, and then select Add Device. If you don`t see the printer you want, select The printer that I want isn`t listed.

Open a web browser and enter the printer`s IP address (Example: 192.168. 1.10) or hostname in the address bar. Once the printer`s web page has loaded, you typically need to locate and select Sign in or Login and then enter the printer`s administrator user name and password.
Choose your printer with Direct in its name. If prompted type the password “12345678”.
You may see a “printer offline” error if your computer can`t communicate with your printer. This can be caused by loose cable connections or an outdated printer driver or operating system. The HP Smart app (below) can automatically diagnose and resolve printer offline issues in Windows operating systems.
In the Devices and Printers window click on Add a printer. Choose “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings”, then click Next. Select Create a new port and choose Standard TCP/IP Port, then click Next. Under Hostname or IP address: Type in the IP address of the printer you intend to connect to.
Place the printer near the Wi-Fi router. Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, and then select Wireless Setup Wizard. Select the name of your network, and then enter the password to complete the connection.
Connect the printer power cord to the printer and turn the printer back on. Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router. Wait 10 seconds before reconnecting it. It may take a few minutes for your internet to come back on.

ANSWER : I know it is now 8 years later but I had the same issue. I bought a D series which includes 4 printers that all use the same driver/software, the 125,35, 45, 55 in plain and XI flavors. Yes the printers are ancient and out of production. HP removed ALL support for ALL retired printers from their site, drivers and software. It IS available elsewhere. CNET,NO DEVICE, SOFTPEDIA are good choices as is OLD APPS. All .com’s. Another choice is EBAY, either the OEM or a good copy. SILICON GUIDE is a good brand. Even a seller might be willing to run off a copy. I do not use a network device other than a router for 4 computers, 2 active and 2 ports for test lines. Routers are PUG AND PLAY. It is rare that the CD, if you have one for yours needs to be run. Hope this helps.
