How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Even the most inexpensive inkjet printer has a printhead. If a printhead breaks on a home printer, it`s usually more economical to simply buy a new printer. With expensive commercial printers, it`s cost-prohibitive to buy a new printer whenever the printhead is broken, which is why it`s replaced instead.
These kinds of printheads require replacement after long term use – however- since most printheads cost upwards of $100 and some replacements can be hard to find, it is usually cheaper to just buy a new printer.
With proper operating conditions and usage, the printhead will last more than 1 to 2 years.
Printheads have 6 month warranty. Life expectancy is typically 30km.
It depends on the intensity of use, your print quality requirements, and variables like printer settings and the use of ink ribbons. According to the manufacturer specifications, a printhead might print up to 10 million labels.
The printhead is the component on your printer that`s responsible for transferring ink onto paper. This mechanism does this by coursing droplets of ink through numerous nuzzles to create the print. When these nozzles get clogged, this causes an uneven ink distribution resulting in faded or streaky prints.
A print head scratch occurs when an accumulation of dust or debris gets stuck in your machine. And if this happens, the damage cannot be fixed. In most cases, you would need to purchase a new printhead. That`s why it`s important to keep the dust out, away from your machine.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
It`s usually because the printhead inside your printer is clogged or dried out. Like with most printers, Canon printheads can clog due to ink or dust drying up and collecting in the nozzle.
Ink cartridges tend to be expensive for several reasons, as the manufacturers must account for the cost of research and development. These cartridges can also be pricy due to the fact that the manufacturer uses them to offset the relatively low cost of the printer itself.
As print quality goes down over time, this will be a reason to replace the color printer. We find a black and white printer can sometimes last 10 years or more and most color laser printers are replaced every 3 to 5 years.
Soak the Printhead

Fill a bowl with warm water (or a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the printhead) and place the printhead directly in it. Let it sit for five minutes or so. Pull the printhead out of the water and use a lint-free cloth or paper towel to remove the dried ink.

Look for the contact points on the print carriage inside the printer and gently wipe them off using a lint-free cloth. Make sure there isn`t any ink left on the printer contacts. Just as on the ink cartridges, if you are having difficulty removing the excess ink, use a cotton swab and mineral water until it is clean.
If your printer or plotter head is built into the printer cartridges, you change your printhead every time you change the ink. If the printheads are built into the printer or plotter, they`re likely to require replacement after long-term use.

If the cost per page is low and your service changes for repair aren`t too high, then you will pay less in the long run compared to buying a new printer. The savings over that period are a good reason to keep the printer you have.
Because the dots must be heated and cooled very rapidly, and there is friction as the ribbon or paper passes against the printhead , the printhead will eventually wear out. As the printhead ages, the output will become lighter or sections of dots may stop heating and cause voids in the print.
