Separate drum units last quite a bit longer than a toner cartridge and typically should be replaced after the use of 3-4 toners. Your printer should inform you when it`s time to replace the drum, but you can usually tell your drum is on it`s last legs if you start to see black spots or lines across the page.
Over time, this drum unit is exposed to internal conditions such as the light from the laser, which can degrade its overall quality. Your drum unit can also become filthy and riddled with dirt and leftover toner residue. Imagine painting a wall with paint that has dust and dirt on the top layer.
The Brother machine will display a `Replace Drum` or `Drum Stop` message when the machine has printed approximately 15,000 pages. The drums should be replaced as a set in order to maintain print quality. Unlike the toner cartridges, the drum change is not automatically detected by the machine when they are replaced.
If your machine continues to display “Replace Drum” after installing a new drum, the drum counter may not have reset properly. Whenever you replace the drum unit, the drum counter needs to be reset.
Use an activated toner cloth, stretched tautly, and carefully wipe down the drum exterior to remove loose toner. Then use a cotton ball saturated with 99% pure isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Clean any patches of stubborn toner still attached to the drum. Use toner cloth or lint-free microfiber to clean the print rollers.

To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the surface of the drum unit, only the wheel on the end.
For cleaning, HP recommends using HP Equipment Cleaning Wipes, but you can use an HP-approved lint-free wipe and deionized or distilled water. Note: If dark spots appear on back side of prints, clean drum screen. Note: If minilab prints more than 2000 prints each day, clean drum screen up to twice daily.
Remove dust from the shells using a feather or “Swiffer” type duster. Use a soft clean cloth for cleaning/polishing – microfiber cloths are ideal. Don`t use paper towels as they are too abrasive. Apply the polish/wax then carefully wipe it off turning the cloth over frequently.
Carefully wipe off any dirty areas visible on the drum. If the drum unit is dirty, apply some rubbing alcohol onto your lint-free cloth and carefully wipe the body of the drum unit.
For natural skin drum heads, like those on a djembe drum or bongos, small cracks and tears can be filled in with glue, while larger holes could be patched with extra skin. However, both of these methods could change the sound of the drum, and completely replacing the natural skin drum head may have better results.
Dried Ink Buildup on the Printhead

If the print cleaning cycle doesn`t work, dried ink may be the culprit. Take the printhead out and wipe the nozzles clean to remove any buildup. Depending on the model of your printer, this may be difficult—some printheads are harder to remove than others.

Do Drum Units Expire? Fortunately, just like laser toners, drum units don`t expire, so you can safely keep extra units on hand if printing is a core part of your business or routine. The only consumable that expires is ink, which is printed on the cartridge itself.
Laser printers use a single drum, but may have more than one toner cartridge. Monochrome models use only black toner, and color laser printers have four cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. When used in combination, the printer produces all colors, hues and shades of gray.
The yield of a drum unit is approx. 15,000 pages (1 page/job). There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used and so on. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 15,000 pages.
The most obvious is most common on laser color printers and can be detected by a flashing message on the printer display screen. Other signs of a bad printer drum include printing blank pages, printing gray pages and strange sounds coming from the printer as it prints.
All laser printers require a toner cartridge and a drum unit to produce a print. However, some printers only need you to replace the toner cartridge, and others require that you regularly replace both the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Most printers use toner cartridges with the drum unit built into the cartridge.
It is important to regularly clean the door and the drum of your washing machine to prevent any build-up of bacterias that can cause bad odours. It is recommended to clean the drum of your washing machine once a month.
It is recommended that you perform this cycle regularly to clean the drum by removing bacteria from it. ANSWER : I usually look for screws that might be holding it. If it doesn’t come off after removing the screws, sometimes you have to slide it to remove it. If that doesn’t work, then you get out the small, flat bladed pocket screwdriver. Use it to gently pry around the edges of the panel. Have you tried grabbing the paper clip with some needle nosed pliers? Either that or a small magnet to pull it out. Another possibility would be to hook the clip and pull it out that way.

What repair needs to be done for a "50 needs repair" message on an HP Laserjet IIIP?
ANSWER : I don’t know what you mean by good toner cartridges. They haven’t been built in about 10 years, so if they are new OEMs in the box, they are guaranteed to fail. The 50 error on that printer is mostly a burned out fuser lamp. This site was sold, so as you can see, there are no more kits available.

Need help for cleaning epson r300, have a kit
ANSWER : Don’t worry about the paper towel. Keep the heads as far to the right as you can and the fluid will just go into the waste sponge underneath. There’s nothing you can damage with the fluid. I wouldn’t worry about the pad that got torn. Just insert the syringe in the nozzle and gently push the fluid down into the heads. This site sold tens of thousands of those kits and I guess the instructions were pretty good because there was never a single complaint.
