How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

The paper is curled. The print side, or shiny side, of the paper is not loaded in the tray face down. The paper guides are too tight against the paper stack. The rubber paper feed rollers are coated with dust.
If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper, fan the edges to separate the sheets, and reload it. If multiple pages continue to feed at once, turn on the Paper Feed Assist Mode setting in the Setup > System Administration > Printer Settings menu. Do not load more than the recommended number of sheets.
Fan the edges of the sheets. Reload them against the right side of the feeder. Slide the left edge guide snugly, but not too tightly, against the paper. Don`t load paper above the arrow mark on the left edge guide and make sure it is under the tabs on the left and right edge guides.
Doubling is a register problem that mainly occurs between plate and blanket within the unit. Too much blanket to paper pressure. Reduce printing pressure to a minimum. Too much plate to blanket pressure.
There are different methods of paper feeding. With dot matrix printers, paper is often feed through pins on a wheel that grab and slowly move paper through the printer. With inkjet and other page printers, paper is fed through the printer with rollers that grab and move the paper through the printer.
Make sure your paper meets the specifications for your product. If paper dust builds up on the rollers, they may lose traction and become unable to feed paper properly. Clean the paper guide. If roll paper does not feed, cut the end straight across and uncurl it by rolling it backward, if necessary.
A printer printing lines on the page are normally caused by a blocked, dirty, or damaged print head. Blocked ink cartridge nozzles, or not removing protective seals correctly when you installed a new ink cartridge can also cause missing lines of print.
Select > Paper Setting > paper source > Print Adjustments > Paper Feed Adjust.
There are a few things that could be the cause of this problem, including: Empty ink or toner cartridges that need replacing. Ink or toner cartridges that have become dislodged from their proper place. The wrong paper size loaded in the input tray.
Usually a quick paper setting adjustment will clear up a ghosting issue right away. Run a cleaning – Most printers have a cleaning function built into the machine. Run this a couple of times to attempt to clear up the printing issue. Inspect the drum – Sometimes excess toner powder can stick to the drum.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
For traditional line data print jobs, the page definition can specify the arrangement of print lines to enable multiple pages of application data to fit on a single printed page. This arrangement is called multiple-up printing, which is not the same as N_UP printing.
Sheet feeder: Holds the blank paper and automatically feeds the paper during printing.
The paper feed is from the front.
Press the home button, press the down arrow to select Setup and press the OK button. Press the down arrow to select Paper Setup, press the OK button. Press the right arrow to select Paper Size, and do one of the following: If you`re copying letter size paper select Letter, and press the OK button.
If you notice white or dark lines in your prints (also called banding), try these solutions before you reprint: Run a nozzle check to see if any of the print head nozzles are clogged. Then clean the print head, if necessary. Make sure the paper type setting matches the type of paper you loaded.
One of the most common causes of paper jams is that the paper has simply not been loaded correctly into the printer paper feed. With this in mind, remove any paper from the tray in order to check for any jams. If you do see some paper jammed, pull each sheet out of the printer slowly until the printer is clear again.
In some respects, the signs that your printer has been infected with malware are similar to the general signs of a malware infection on your computer, the signs include unusual behaviour by your printer, such as not responding to your commands, printing unauthorised print jobs and refusing to install security updates.
What Is Banding? Banding is a defect in inkjet printing that will appear as horizontal or vertical lines, streaks or bands in the printed output. Everyone will eventually experience some type of banding with their inkjet printer.
(1) Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray and set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right. (2) Print the nozzle check pattern to check the print head condition. (3) If the print head nozzles are still not clean, turn off the printer and perform another Print Head Deep Cleaning after 24 hours.
The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers. The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly. The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product. The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
What should a technician do if a printer is feeding two pieces of paper instead of one for every page printed? Inspect for worn feed rollers. What type of printer is the fastest?
Continuous form feed and friction feed are the two types of paper feeder mechanisms. Dot matrix printers use continuous form feed, and laser printers use friction feed.

Multiple paper feed
ANSWER : Most likely the pickup roller solenoid is sticking. The way it works is the solenoid energizes, pulling down a metal plate that releases the pickup roller. There is some foam on the base to quiet the clicking sound. The foam deteriorates and the plate sticks to the gooey residue. This allows the pickup roller to continue to turn instead of stopping after one revolution when the plate springs back up. That results in multiple paper being fed. Solution is to find the solenoid, which is at the end of the pickup roller shaft. Remove the sticky foam and preferably replace it with some thin sticky backed felt. You can find it at a hardware store as it is used on the bottom of chair legs.

Printer stops pulling paper from tray 2 after a few sheets
ANSWER : Sticking pickup roller solenoid. Pretty easy fix. You need to remove the right side covers. The back one just slides off, but the top holds the front one. I usually just take the 2 right side screws off and gently lift the top enough to pop off the side panel. Open the metal door on the formatter assy. Then release the tab in the middle. There’s also a tab at the front of the panel. When putting it back on, make sure you engage the rocker switch and the metal rod before pushing it into place. When you get it open, you’ll see the solenoid at the bottom front. There’s 1 screw holding it in place. Remove it and take the top plate and spring off. Be careful not to lose the spring. Then scrape off the gooey crap on top and clean off the plate as well. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt in place of the remnants of the disintegrating sponge that HP uses. You can find it at the hardware store used for the bottom of chair legs.
