Check Cables and Printer USB Ports
Check all cable connections (including the power cord) on the printer side. If the printer does have power and you`ve properly connected the communication cable, but the printer is still not recognized, try switching to a different USB port on the PC.
Open the start menu and select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > and choose the Services icon. Locate the Print Spooler service and right-click. Then select the option to “Stop” the service.
Make sure that both ends of the USB cable are correctly inserted into the computer and the printer. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable at both ends. Disconnect the printer and the computer and reconnect them. Try another USB port if available.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Under Add printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner. Choose the printer you want, and then select Add Device. If you don`t see the printer you want, select The printer that I want isn`t listed.
Ghost printers are printers that continue to appear in Windows although they have not been used or installed on your system in a long time, which may have been years.
Click on Device Manager from the context menu. In Device Manager, click on View and select Show hidden devices. Next, expand the Printers section to view your printer.
FIX Unknown Device Drivers with Windows Update
Open Device Manager and go to the device in question in your device. Typically, it is listed as an Unknown Device in the Other devices node and expands the section. Right-click on the Unknown Device and select Update Driver.
Printers show up under “unspecified” when Windows cannot associate an appropriate driver. If you have recently installed the driver, simply rebooting your PC can resolve the unspecified status.
What is a printer`s IP address? Your printer`s IP address is the 12-digit ID number and is used to connect the printer to the internet or to another device. If your printer has a problem, knowing your printer`s IP address can help you fix it faster.
HP Smart app (Android, iOS): Open the app, tap your printer, and then tap Printer Information or Network Information to find the IP address. Most printers with a touchscreen display or menu: Open the Wireless Summary or Network Settings menu to find the IP address.
Your printer should have been packaged with a USB cable regardless of whether it is a wireless or wired printer. Plug the cable into your printer and your computer`s USB port. The direct linking should trigger your computer to recognize the printer and start up the software needed to complete the installation.
Connecting via Bluetooth
First, turn on your printer`s Bluetooth scanning function. Each brand (and even model) does this a little differently, so check the instruction manual. Once it`s scanning, go to your phone`s settings, tap Connected devices and select Pair new device.
Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Print Management. In the Print Management window, right-click Print Management, and then click Migrate Printers. Click Import printer queues and printer drivers from a file, and then click Next. Click Next two times.
Simply plug the USB cable from your printer into an available USB port on your PC, and turn the printer on. On the taskbar, select the Search icon, type Printers in the search bar, and then select Printers & scanners from the search results to open the Printers & scanners system setting.
If you`re using Windows 10, click or tap the “+ Add a printer or scanner” button. No matter if you`re using Windows 11 or Windows 10, the operating system begins “searching for printers and scanners,” and if it manages to find your local printer or scanner, it will try to install its drivers automatically.
