How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Here are the most common causes of a printer printing faded text or images: Low ink or toner levels. Toner sticking to the fuser roller or problems with the transfer roller. Low ink or toner density settings.
If you have printed a document or photo and the print is too light, patchy or faded, a common cause is the toner cartridge nearing the end of its life. However, there can be other reasons behind the deterioration in quality such as the toner density, humidity and the type of paper being used.
Ink cartridges that have been sitting idle in your machine for more than a couple weeks will eventually dry out. You might be able to bring them back to life by running a cleaning on your machine, but if the pattern continues, you will eventually be placing an order for a set of replacement cartridges.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
Usually a quick paper setting adjustment will clear up a ghosting issue right away. Run a cleaning – Most printers have a cleaning function built into the machine. Run this a couple of times to attempt to clear up the printing issue. Inspect the drum – Sometimes excess toner powder can stick to the drum.
Paper Jams
This is a common laser printer problem. Primary causes include grime, dust, worn rollers, or incorrect paper weight. The most basic way to prevent paper jams is simply through regular cleaning of your printer. Also, replace parts as needed.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
If your printouts are blurry or smeared, try these solutions: Make sure your paper is not damp, curled, old, or loaded incorrectly in your product. Use a support sheet with special paper, or load special paper one sheet at a time. Make sure your paper meets the specifications for your product.
On your computer, in the Windows Notification Area (bottom-right corner of your Windows desktop), right-click the printer icon. In the printer menu, select the Properties or Preferences option. In the printer settings window, the ink or toner levels are displayed for the currently-installed cartridge(s).

The problem may be due to a simple issue like printer paper quality or ink/toner cartridge wear, or it could be a more serious problem that requires professional repair.
This happens when the rollers or the transfer belt inside the printer get dirty or covered in excess dirt, ink or toner powder, and as the paper is moved through the printer the `tracks` are being left on the page. This is normally the case when the tracks on the page are located at either end.

Minolta Pageworks L printer
ANSWER : I’m not familiar with that model. I do have to say that 8 years in storage will have detrimental results. I have never seen any printer request a transfer roller change. They do come as part of maintenance kits in HP series printers. Transfer rollers really don’t wear out. Worst that happens is they get toner on them. Their function is to charge the back of the paper and pull the toner down on it. That being said, you probably will have a host of other issues. Any drum wiper blade will have deteriorated necessitating replacement of the drums. The fuser assy. will probably have suffered damage to the pressure roller from sitting in the same position without rotation for 8 years. Depending on storage conditions, the toners might have suffered as well. In my opinion, it will cost you more to fix it than replace it. Test print procedure is Chapter 3, item 5 in the user manual http://printer.konicaminolta.net/drivers/manuals/pageworks/cpw.pdf

Toner cartridge full, printer displays: "empty needs replacing"
ANSWER : I once went to a customer who had a similar issue. They had installed new cartridges and judging from the box, they looked OEM. Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.
