Adjust the paper setting on your Brother machine
Make sure you loaded the paper in a Portrait position, by setting the paper guides at the indicators for your paper size. After you have checked the paper size and the paper position, follow the on-screen instructions.
Click the button of the function you are going to use while holding down the Control key. Uncheck the 2-sided Scanning box and click Advanced Settings. Uncheck the Auto Deskew box, and then click OK. Now Long Paper is displayed at the bottom of the Document Size List and you can select Long Paper.
To print on to legal paper, you must load legal size paper into your Brother machine by following these instructions: 1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

Open the item you want to print, click File > Page Setup. Select Manage Custom Sizes from the Paper Size menu to open the Custom Paper Sizes window.
From your PC open the HP Deskjet 4640 software and press on Scan a Document or Photo. My printer feeds through one piece of paper all the way and then a half piece of paper and stops. I pull out the paper to stop the paper jam and then it prints but sounds rough. After printing, it doesn't feed the paper all the way through.

ANSWER : The industry says that at least once a month you should print something, even a test print page to avoid the ink drying up in the print heads. Most printers including Brother will turn themselves on occasionally to clean themselves. I do not recommend refilling your ink cartridges yourself. You can buy ‘non-OEM compatible refilled’ ink cartridges for you printers very cheaply but not all that make/sell these are of the same quality. So if this is of interest to you then you need to shop around until you find a good & reputable compatible non-OEM ink seller.
