How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

A message appears on the printer touch screen when the waste toner container is full. If you continue copying or printing without replacing the waste toner container, the printer stops after copying or printing approximately 18,000 sheets. Replace the Waste Toner Container.
After you have printed approximately 20,000 pages at 5% coverage for CMYK each, you must change the waste toner box. The actual number of printed pages will vary depending on the print jobs and paper you use.
Overview. The waste toner box collects excess toner that is produced during printing. When waste toner box becomes full, the message “Please replace the waste toner box.” appears.
You have the option of disposing of your existing cartridge and replacing it with a new one, but the far most cost-effective option is to empty this waste toner cartridge yourself.
DO NOT reuse the waste toner box. DO NOT put the waste toner box into a fire. It could explode. Be careful not to spill the toner.
Without it, toner powder can collect in the printer and negatively affect print quality. Laser printers with a waster toner bottle use a sensor to track the toner waste level, notifying you when it is time for replacement.
Waste toner bottles are separate from the toner cartridges used for printing. The specific purpose of waste containers is to catch leftover residue on the drum. A cleaning wiper similar to a windshield wiper scrapes the leftover powder particles into the waste container.
Why is it needed? A waste toner bottle is needed to easily collect excess toner that gets stuck or leftover on the imaging drum. If left on this drum, the toner can cause problems for prints you may wish to create later, so it is important that it gets removed.
This excess toner is removed from the drum by a cleaning blade and goes into a waste toner compartment, or bottle. The main purpose of the waste toner bottle is to provide a collection reservoir for unused particles so that they do not just fall into the machine.
Ideally, you should recycle them as soon as they`ve been used, as this stops the ink residue left inside the cartridge from drying out, making them easier to clean. The cartridges can then be refilled, re-sold and reused.
Some manufacturers have attempted to divert the waste toner back to the fresh toner reservoir of the xerographic machine. But the attempts were in vain, as the waste toner does not adhere to the paper due to lack of fusible particles [34]. Reuse of waste toner is nearly impossible in the case of mixed colour toners.
The toner collection unit is designed for a single use. Do not attempt to empty the toner collection unit and reuse it. Doing so could lead to toner being spilled inside the product, which could result in reduced print quality. After use, return the toner collection unit to HP`s Planet Partners program for recycling.
For toner cartridges, there is no expiry date. Toner may degrade over time and the print results may not be as good as they were, but toner does not expire. If an ink cartridge is unopened or not used, so long as it`s kept away from humid environments, it should last at least 2 years.

Waste Toner Cartridge is empty but printer is still telling me to replace it
ANSWER : All of the ones I’ve seen are optical. Light shines through a transparent section of the waste box onto a photocell. If toner builds up past that area, it gives a warning to replace it. Possibly toner dust has gotten on the photocell.

I replaced the black toner cartridge and now the printer shakes though it is fine when I set it for grayscale only prints
ANSWER : You need to unlock the carousel. Once you unlock it and remove the toners, ignore all the rest of the crap. Pick any color and align the cartridge slot on the left side like you would have it to remove the cartridge. Then pull out on the gear towards you on the right and drop it so the right slot is lined up as well. You can get it aligned pretty close by just eyeballing it visually. I’ve never seen the left side go out of alignment, just the right, so this method has worked for me everytime.

toner waste box
ANSWER : Not at all familiar with that brand. I have emptied out some toner waste boxes and washed them out and dried them off. The printers have photosensors that see the level of toner, so that should work. I don’t know any other way of doing it. Since you ordered a new one, it can’t hurt to try.

Toner cartridge full, printer displays: "empty needs replacing"
ANSWER : I once went to a customer who had a similar issue. They had installed new cartridges and judging from the box, they looked OEM. Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.

ANSWER : I would think it was probably a sticking pickup roller solenoid. To prove that, you should try the same job from the manual tray. That uses a different solenoid.
