Check Cables and Printer USB Ports

Check all cable connections (including the power cord) on the printer side. If the printer does have power and you`ve properly connected the communication cable, but the printer is still not recognized, try switching to a different USB port on the PC.

For HP Laser printers, click the Paper tab, click the Original Size drop-down, and then make sure the paper size matches the type of paper loaded into the printer. Click the Output Size drop-down, select Same as Original Size, and then click OK.
Slide the paper all the way into the printer. The leading edge of the paper will stop at the Paper Drive Roller. Locate the Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor on the right side of the paper path. It can be seen from the top of the printer with the Top Cover open and has red, black, and blue wires attached to it.
The optical sensor reads the unique media `signature` of the paper by measuring inherent optical properties and comparing them with the signatures of other papers. Once the paper is identified, the printer optimizes printing for the particular paper type.
Open the start menu and select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > and choose the Services icon. Locate the Print Spooler service and right-click. Then select the option to “Stop” the service.
Insert the stack of paper into the product, and then gently push the paper guides snugly against the paper. Make sure that the paper is fully inserted into the product. Try printing again. If the issue is not resolved, try loading different brands of paper and different types of paper, one type at a time.

To do this, click on your printer in the Printers control panel, then pick Properties from the context menu. Choose the Paper tab and the appropriate paper size from the drop-down list in the Printing Defaults window. To save your changes, click OK.
The automatic paper type sensor functions when a tray is configured to the. Any Type. or plain type. setting. After it has picked up paper from the tray, the product can detect overhead transparencies, paper.
Capacitive proximity sensors can be used to detect and count non-metallic objects such as glass, paper, cardboard, plastic or wood. This is possible because the sensor can detect more than one type of material unlike the inductive proximity switch.
Your printer should have been packaged with a USB cable regardless of whether it is a wireless or wired printer. Plug the cable into your printer and your computer`s USB port. The direct linking should trigger your computer to recognize the printer and start up the software needed to complete the installation.
Printer Media Sensors

Most quality printer brands have both a gap (transmissive) sensor and a black mark (reflective) sensor. However not all media sensors are movable, this will depend on the individual printer model.

Turn off the camera power. Detach the lens. Use the blower to clean the image sensor surface and the surrounding area. Perform cleaning with the front side of the camera tilted slightly downwards so it will be easier for the dust to be removed.
In the majority of cases, printers` self-cleaning mechanisms clean blocked printer heads by flushing the nozzles with air. The air works to dislodge dry ink inside the cartridge channels and also push it out. The intensity of the self-cleaning process of printers is usually not very strong.
Ghost printers are printers that continue to appear in Windows although they have not been used or installed on your system in a long time, which may have been years.
A “null printer” is a fake printer that can be used to avoid printing unneeded tickets. This is useful if you need to use the Autocompostage – Auto-check – Auto-control interface, because it needs a ticket.
To do this, right-click the shortcut icon and select Properties. In the Properties window, select the Shortcut tab and select the Change Icon button. Select the Browse button, browse to shell32. dll in the \Windows\System32\ folder, select it, and then select the printer image from the list of system icons.
Make sure your printer is in the Name or Printers drop-down list box, and then click Properties, Printer Properties or Preferences, depending on the program options. 5. Click the Paper/Quality tab, and then click Paper Source to select the correct tray.
For the best print quality, HP recommends HP Premium Inkjet papers. Paper that is too thin, too slick, or too stretchy can jam the product. Paper that has a rough or fibrous texture or that does not accept ink can cause printouts to smear, bleed, or not be filled in completely.
To resolve this issue, change the default paper size of your printer: Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Printers. Right-click the appropriate printer, and then click Properties. Click the Paper tab, and then click the paper size you want to use in the Paper Size box.
The sensors typically send out some type of energy — such as microwaves, ultrasonic waves or light beams — and can detect when the flow of energy is interrupted by something entering its path.
The use of a capacitive sensor is recommended if the object being detected is made from plastic, mineral, glass, wood, or paper, or is an oily or aqueous liquid, or a granulate or a powder, and the required detection distance is within a range of a few millimeters.
Wipe the sensor window with one of the cotton swabs provided in the Printer Cleaning Kit, slightly dampened (not soaked) with isopropyl alcohol, to remove dried ink. If the sensor window is heavily coated with dry ink, you may need to apply some pressure while wiping, helping the cotton to absorb the ink.

Paper jam in tray 2 (but no paper pulled from tray) also M476DN models
ANSWER : Isopropyl alcohol is not recommended for rubber rollers. It dries out the rubber and hasten it’s cracking and breaking. It will do nothing to restore the grip. Those rollers are really hard to replace. It would be easy if that dumbass secondary menu really worked. None of the techs I’ve spoke to ever got into it. Everyone I know sends a print job and listens for the roller to rotate into position where you can pull it off.

paper drive wont accept paper
ANSWER : There is probably a small scrap of paper stuck at the left edge of the paper path. The paper hits it and skews to the left. The smaller size bypasses it. You need to shove something stiff, like a piece of file folder, down the paper path and attempt to dislodge it.

Printer stops pulling paper from tray 2 after a few sheets
ANSWER : Sticking pickup roller solenoid. Pretty easy fix. You need to remove the right side covers. The back one just slides off, but the top holds the front one. I usually just take the 2 right side screws off and gently lift the top enough to pop off the side panel. Open the metal door on the formatter assy. Then release the tab in the middle. There’s also a tab at the front of the panel. When putting it back on, make sure you engage the rocker switch and the metal rod before pushing it into place. When you get it open, you’ll see the solenoid at the bottom front. There’s 1 screw holding it in place. Remove it and take the top plate and spring off. Be careful not to lose the spring. Then scrape off the gooey crap on top and clean off the plate as well. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt in place of the remnants of the disintegrating sponge that HP uses. You can find it at the hardware store used for the bottom of chair legs.
