Many people assume that when a printer prints something in black and white, it doesn`t use the color cartridge. But with grayscale setting printing, the printer uses color ink or toner cartridges in combination with black to produce different shades of gray.
An inkjet printer printing lines or missing lines on printouts are caused when the printer cartridges or the cartridge carriage which contains the print head becomes dirty or damaged.
There`s a trick to printing in color: You must select the color printer in the print menu AND make sure the document is set to print in color under “Printer Properties.” (Most of the time, the color printers default to “color” as the output).
First, check your printer settings on the file or picture your trying to print. If your page is setup to print in “grayscale” it will only print in black and white. Change the setting to “default” so it will print in color. If your settings look good from the start, the cartridge may just need to be primed.
In the CMYK model, grey is obtained by adding black (K). To compose a tone of grey, make sure that you set your black (K) color to a certain percentage between 0% and 100%. Avoid using the three other colors (by setting Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow to 0%).
We have to admit, gray is one of toughest colors to achieve because it uses all four colors on the printer, and they have to be perfectly balanced. Any small variances in the ink amount can shift the color.
One or more clogged nozzles preventing ink from getting to the page is the most common cause of a printer skipping lines. Through normal use, small amounts of ink can collect and dry in the printhead blocking the nozzles.
Streaks and unwanted lines could mean that the printer heads are out of alignment. There`s an alignment tool in the printer`s control panel. If that`s not the issue then the printer is dirty. Printer ink stripes may appear along the edges of the paper, which means there`s ink on the rollers and other parts.
You can visually inspect the remaining cartridge levels on your printer. If they are full but you still cannot print properly, check the cartridge`s expiry date. Expired ink cartridges often dry up which causes problems in the print results.
For Windows:
From the Control Panel, select Printers and Devices and then Printers. Go to Quality Option and then check the box on Grayscale. Click on OK to set printing to Black & White. Click on Apply.
Why is CMYK black not black? If you use 100% K to create a black in CMYK color mode, you`ll end up with a deep gray, not a true black. To get rich black, you need to add the right amount of all four colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.
The Challenge. Gray hair poses some unique challenges. It`s coarser than your natural hair, and gray hair follicles make less oil, making it drier as well. This makes it harder for color to penetrate, so you may have to leave it on longer, which can cause more damage.
Banding can be created when there isn`t enough tonal range to represent all the different colors between the brightest and the darkest points of a gradient. The tonal range is given by the number of bits. An 8-bit photograph will have 256 tonal values per color and a 16-bit one has 65,536.
Banding is caused by the harder rollers being less water-receptive than softer ones, non-alcohol solutions having a harder time adhering to their surfaces. The solution is to use softer rollers, such those possessing a durometer of 18:22.
A printer`s heads, nozzles, and other components can become dirty or clogged, which could show up as white lines running across your page. Your printer may have a head-cleaning feature available through your device software located on your computer or from the control panel on the printer itself.
Check the nozzle check pattern you printed. (1) If lines of this pattern are missing, the print head nozzles need cleaning. (2) If these patterns have white streaks, the print head nozzles need cleaning.
Remember, printers use both black and colour inks when printing grayscale, so you`re not saving anything by doing so unnecessarily. Some printers will print with only a black ink cartridge installed – if your printer does this, you can technically save ink and use black ink only to print.
Since the grayscale printing translates colors to shades of gray, use colors that are different enough that the shades they are translated to will be easy to distinguish. A lighter color and a darker color will work better than two darker colors.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
Even if your cartridge is full and ready for action, it may have become slightly dislodged and no longer in full electrical contact with the printer. The easiest way to rectify this potential problem is to simply remove and reinstall the cartridges.
Reasons why your HP printer has ink but won`t print
This may seem obvious, but it sometimes happens: first make sure your paper tray has paper in it. Misalignment, clogged printheads, faulty data communication or insufficient ink levels can also be sources of the problem.
Because the RGB scheme has a greater range of colors, CMYK cannot produce brighter colors. These hues are beyond the CMYK range and will come out darker and more dull when printed than what you see on your display.
Simply put, CMYK is the color mode intended for printing with ink, such as business card designs. RGB is the color mode intended for screen displays. The more color added in CMYK mode, the darker the result. The more color added to RGB, the lighter the result.
The ink cartridges may be old or low on ink, and you may need to replace them. Your printed colors can never exactly match your on-screen colors. However, you can use a color management system to get as close as possible. Try using the color management options in your printer software.

Prints blank pages, won't print from computer
ANSWER : Don’t know why you replaced the fuser, but assuming you had print before, then it must have been something you did during the procedure. Only thing I can suggest is to recheck your work. Just because you reinstalled a connector doesn’t mean that it is seated firmly enough to work. Any flat ribbon connectors that you removed and reinstalled, check to see that the contacts are all flat and not peeled back.

Print file sent but no printing occurs
ANSWER : Been working on these since they first were released. Never seen a problem like yours. If it happens again, try doing an engine test, as it bypasses the formatter board. The engine test is located at the right side of the manual tray opening. Look for a hole in the side wall. Stick something like a paper clip into it to actuate the test button. It will then print a lined test page. If it does that, then it points to the formatter board as the cause of your problem.
