This issue is common when using paper that exceeds the recommended thickness for the machine. To correct the feeding issue, add more paper to the paper tray.
Common cardstock printing problems
If your media is too thick it could cause paper jams as the printer won`t be able to handle it. Your printer may only be able to handle cardstock via a specific tray or sometimes a manual feed, using the wrong tray could also cause jams or mis-prints.
As long as the right type of paper is used to allow the toner to fuse with it, great printing results on glossy paper can be achieved with any laser printer.
Before you print, make sure in your printer property settings that the correct paper is selected. For example, if you are using one of our glossy sheets, please select either a glossy paper setting or cardstock. If you select plain paper, the ink may run.
Some printers have “heavy paper” settings that can be used for cardstock; others are so sensitive that you can program them for the exact weight of paper you`re using. The paper tray may also need to be moved to a different position. Your printer`s online manual should provide specific guidance.
If you are printing on paper over 200gsm, it is advisable that you use the bypass tray rather than a paper tray, as it passes the sheet on the straightest route through the printer, which will reduce the risk of paper jams, as the thick paper is less flexible than thin paper.
Special inks are not normally required for printing on these media. Glossy papers can suffer from `bronzing` when prints are made with pigment inks. This indicates the ink is unevenly deposited and/or absorbed by the paper. Viewed from a shallow angle, bronzing produces a greenish bronze tone.
If the glossy paper is a glossy LASER printer paper, then it can be printed in a laser printer. Laser printer paper comes in many different coatings: matte, lustre, glossy, etc. Make sure that the glossy paper you have is designed for a laser printer. Not for an inkjet printer.
Glossy Paper
This paper can be used to print photographs or vibrant images, but it does have a much longer dry time than regular paper, so you might experience some smudges if handled incorrectly. As a best practice, it`s best to only print glossy paper with a laser printer.
During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer. Over time, this buildup can cause print quality issues such as toner specks, smears, or marks. The printer has a cleaning mode that can correct and prevent print quality problems.
There are many different types of Glossy Paper suitable for Inkjet printing. Glossy Paper is most commonly used for high-quality prints to make advertisements, flyers, posters and to print photographs. It gives your print that extra something you or your customer could be looking for.
Coated material (inkjet paper, glossy paper, vellum…) usually doesn`t work well. The toner only sticks to the coating (not to the paper) and will rub off or leave toner in the printer which will show up on subsequent prints. You should also be very careful with sticky back media.
If the printing result is badly wet or smudged, change the setting on the printer`s control panel as the following: Press the [Menu] key, select [Maintenance], [General Settings], and then select [Glossy Paper Setting]. Select one from [Glossy Paper 1], [Glossy Paper 2], [Glossy Paper 3], or [Glossy Paper 4].
HP printers will generally work with any high-quality paper with a quality assured preference to HP paper. This means “top quality” papers of a brand other than HP will usually work in your printer.
The common setup for home inkjet printers is to use pigment ink for black and dye inks for color. This is the reason why when it comes to ink not drying well on glossy surfaces, it is always the black ink causing issue.
Greeting Card Paper GSM
The weight range for greeting card printing is between 250 to 400 gsm paper. Usually, 350 gsm card stock is considered the best paper weight for printing greeting cards.
Load your card stock into the desired printer tray. You can use the main tray, or if you plan on printing a lot of copies on card stock, you might want to load the stock into the manual tray.

Can Glossy Cardstock Be Used in Printers? Yes, glossy cardstock can be used in most laser printers and inkjet printers just like regular cardstock or photo paper. It can be used with both black and white and color printing, although color printing takes full advantage of it`s brightness.
It`s important to make sure that your copier/printer can handle your desired paper thickness. Standard, desktop printers typically can`t handle anything over 80# cover, while a multifunction copier with a bypass tray can usually handle 100+ pounds.
You can dry ink on a glossy paper quickly by using a hairdryer on a low heat setting or by setting the paper in a well-ventilated area with a fan blowing on it. Another option is to use a heat press, which applies heat and pressure to the ink to speed up the drying process.
It may be hard to tell just from the product description, but very helpful to know if your printer can handle sticker or label printing. In most cases, a traditional inkjet printer is adequate. To be safe, you can always check the printer`s documentation to see if it supports printing stickers.
A glossy paper can be written on with a pen or a sharpie but the ink has a good chance of smearing.
