How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

Turn off the printer and turn it on again after a minute. Make sure that the printer is on the Ready state, otherwise capture the error message and restart the printer once more. Check the actual connection of the printer. Make sure that the printer is on the same network with the computer.
If your printer`s status displays “Printer in error state,” there may be a problem with the printer itself. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your PC by Wi-Fi or cable. Check it for low paper or ink, and be sure the cover isn`t open and the paper isn`t jammed.
You can find the printer IP address: From the top left corner of the printer home screen. From the TCP/IP section in the Network/Ports menu.
Wired Connections

Many computer connectivity issues are caused by something as simple as a loose cable. Make sure all of the cables connecting your computer to your printer are fully in place and completely fastened at both ends. If your printer is not turning on, the power cord could also be an issue.

From the home screen, touch Settings > Device > Restore Factory Defaults. In the Restore Settings menu, select the settings that you want to restore. Touch RESTORE.
Make sure that both your computer and your Lexmark printer are connected to your network. Restart your printer. In some cases, a simple restart can fix the issue. Unplug the printer and check if there is any paper stuck in the machine, and if the toner is installed correctly.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Under Add printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner. Choose the printer you want, and then select Add Device.
On the printer, press the Menu or Setup button. Use the appropriate buttons to navigate through the menu options to a networking or network setup section and press Enter . Use the arrows to navigate the available network options.
If you disable your printer`s memory chip from collecting your printer usage information, you can continue using your printer even if the toner or ink is finished. So you want to inspect your printer`s ink level at interval by removing it to avoid your ink running out!
A powered down printer is one of the most common explanations of the “unable to communicate” message, especially if the printer is located away from where you`re working. Eliminate the most obvious culprit by checking to make sure the printer is on.
A connection to the printer could not be made. The printer may be offline, malfunctioning, or busy. Verify the following items, and then resubmit your print job: Confirm that the printer is powered on and displays Ready.
If your wireless printer isn`t printing, be sure to check your settings. Make sure your Wi-Fi is enabled, and then check to be sure you`re connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. You can often check your connectivity by printing a network configuration sheet by selecting this option from the printer`s display menu.
Printer Connections

It might be connected physically to a file server or client computer by a parallel, serial or USB connection. Dedicated, network, print-server hardware devices connect directly to a printer via a parallel or USB connection and to the network wirelessly or by using an RJ45, Ethernet cable connection.

Restoring the factory-set defaults returns most of the settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count, tray size, or language.
1. On the printer display home screen, select the “set up” button (it looks like a gear). 2. Select “settings” > “device settings” > “reset settings” > “reset all” > “OK” and then “Yes.”
Some of the most common printer problems that most of us have experienced include paper jamming, slow printing, uneven printing, and wrong colour output. If you use your printer frequently, we know how annoying it can be to have persisting problems with the printer.
Select Start , then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners . Scroll down to Related Settings and select Print server properties. Select the Drivers tab, and see if your printer is listed. If it is, you`re all set.
What is a printer`s IP address? Your printer`s IP address is the 12-digit ID number and is used to connect the printer to the internet or to another device. If your printer has a problem, knowing your printer`s IP address can help you fix it faster.
You may see a “printer offline” error if your computer can`t communicate with your printer. This can be caused by loose cable connections or an outdated printer driver or operating system.
Remove and Re-Add Your Printer in Windows

If this happens, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and remove it. Then click Add a Printer or Scanner to re-add it to the device list.

However, with the popularity of smartphones, tablets, and Wi-Fi, newer printers can connect to your wireless network and be used without a computer. For these printers to be used, they require a Wi-Fi network to communicate with other devices.
Place the smart chip against the pins on the reset device. A red light will flash to show you that the chip is engaged. When the light turns green, usually six or seven seconds later, the cartridge chip is reset and ready to use.
Reset or Replace a Chip

If this type of chip is in your toner, you will need to replace the chip when refilling your cartridge. Other chips can be reset with a “resetter,” a small plastic tool that physically connects with the cartridge chip and tells the chip to return its count of spent droplets to zero.

The chip is programmed to automatically reset when the cartridge reads empty in the printer, is removed, refilled with ink, and reinstalled. Upon reinserting the cartridge, the ink level will be reset to full. This style chip can NOT be manually reset.

Lexmark X4650 paper Jamming!!
ANSWER : Well I had two printers that had similar issues – misalignment of paper feed which rendered both printers useless. I shook the Lexmark x4650 a couple of times and then plugged it in and got new paper and voila the misalignment was gone and it actually fed paper like it used to and printed it too.

Lexmark paper feed problems
ANSWER : On my X204n Lexmark laser printer, it was doing the same thing you described – basically sounded like it was trying to pick up the paper from the tray and then failing after several seconds. When you’d open the paper tray, the paper looked like it had been partially taken up with some black scuff marks on the paper that lined up with the rollers that take up the paper. I inspected the rollers and although they looked a bit smooth and worn, didn’t seem like they should be a problem. However, this particular model has just a rubber tire almost like a car tire – the rubber can come off the hard plastic wheel on the inner portion. So I popped off the two rubber “tires”, turned them inside out and put them back on. When turned inside out, the rubber looked nice and … rubbery and had a lot more grippy feeling to them. The very first printing attempt after that and the paper sucked up perfectly with no problems. I think the problem is solved! So if you have similar “tires” that take up the paper, try flipping them and see if it works for you too.

Lexmark X466 empty tray
ANSWER : The “Load Tray 1 with A4 paper” means the printer is looking for A4 size paper in Tray 1 and that is not what it is detecting. You need to make sure that the paper size that is in the tray matches what the printer is expecting so it understands that it should be looking for a specific size of paper. If you are printing on regular Letter size paper – set the printer tray to Letter instead of A4 and message should go away.
